The Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT) is the central IT agency for the City of Philadelphia headed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO). OIT oversees all major information and communications technology initiatives for the City of Philadelphia - increasing the effectiveness of the information technology infrastructure, where the services provided are advanced, optimized, and responsive to the needs of the City of Philadelphia’s businesses, residents, and visitors. OIT responsibilities include: identifying the most effective approach for implementing new information technology directions throughout city government; improving the value of the city’s technology assets and the return on the city’s technology investments; ensuring data security continuity; planning for continuing operations in the event of disruption of information technology or communications services; and supporting accountable, efficient and effective government across every city department, board, commission and agency.

Job Description

The Video Surveillance System (VSS) team, within Unified Communications, has the responsibility of supporting the City of Philadelphia’s Police Video Surveillance equipment and network; including video management software administration, maintain storage data and integrate video feeds from external sources.  The primary responsibility of this position is field operations tasks daily and emergency requests based on the public safety needs of the City.   This includes repairing and installing video surveillance cameras, installing, and repairing fiber and maintaining the wireless infrastructure throughout the city on street furniture and building rooftops.  As an integral part of the field operations team, you will work closely with other field technicians, network management, project management and Police in the daily operations of the video network.  

Essential Functions

  • Install and program low voltage electrical devices / alarm panels for security, phone system, CCTV (IP and analog), controlled access and networking
  • Survey and prepare indoor and outdoor sites for testing of controlled access, and CCTV (IP and analog)
  • Install, maintain, and repair access control and CCTV (IP and analog) systems 
  • Responsible for catalog and inventory of equipment, such as cameras, switches, servers, and license users
  • Tracking vendor work orders and invoices in developed database
  • Provide technical assistance in researching, evaluating and recommending surveillance installation
  • Schedule or coordinate services with vendors
  • Test and evaluate new equipment to ensure it meets manufacture and City standards
  • Perform other job assignments as needed & directed by management
  • Perform testing of controlled access panels and CCTV (IP and analog) equipment noting deficiencies and trouble signs/signals
  • Correct trouble signals in alarm panels, controlled access CCTV (IP and analog), and perform repairs when needed
  • Read wiring diagrams and system blueprints to ensure proper and safe installation
  • Run and install wire per manufacturer specifications and code
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting
  • Complete necessary paperwork in accurate and legible manner
  • Discuss deficiencies noted with management, explaining the problem and its resolution
  • Complete inspection reports
  • Monitor, test, inspect, service and replace CCTV (IP and analog) and other wireless devices including sensors and other end devices
  • Keep work truck clean and organized
  • Manage installation job site in an efficient and safe manner keeping it clean, organized and professional
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • On Call duties as required including responding and resolving after hour and weekend trouble calls if needed.

  • Computer networks: VLANS, switches, power over-Ethernet 
  • Fiber optic splicing and structure cabling

Qualifications

  • 2 years applicable work experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong passion for delivering the highest quality of customer service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Dependable and punctual

Additional Information

Salary Not to Exceed: $50,000

Starting salary to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
