The Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT) is the central IT agency for the City of Philadelphia headed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO). OIT oversees all major information and communications technology initiatives for the City of Philadelphia - increasing the effectiveness of the information technology infrastructure, where the services provided are advanced, optimized, and responsive to the needs of the City of Philadelphia’s businesses, residents, and visitors. OIT responsibilities include: identifying the most effective approach for implementing new information technology directions throughout city government; improving the value of the city’s technology assets and the return on the city’s technology investments; ensuring data security continuity; planning for continuing operations in the event of disruption of information technology or communications services; and supporting accountable, efficient and effective government across every city department, board, commission and agency.
Job Description
This position will be responsible for the daily design and support of the City's internal network, extranets, and internet circuits as well as the design/deployment of various network technologies at the Department of Prisons. In addition, this position will provide support for strategic initiatives, manage the system life cycle of network equipment, and provide monthly traffic analysis of network metrics.
- Perform switch and router configurations.
- Perform firewall and site to site VPN configurations.
- Configure and maintain remote access VPN configurations.
- Working in remote sites (Philadelphia Department of Prisons facilities) to set, configure or troubleshoot network problems.
- Resolving trouble tickets assigned to the Prisons Helpdesk categorized as networking
- Assist with Network security – firewalls, VPN devices and other perimeter devices.
- Installation and support of remote devices, as needed.
- Monitoring alerts from various building probes.
- Cabling and connecting both copper and fiber equipment.
- WIFI design, installation, and support.
- Attending meetings as required.
- Other related duties.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of network security concepts including firewalls, VPNs, and proxy services
- Ability to interpret and submit firewall rule and proxy exception requests accurately
- Familiarity with access control lists (ACLs), NAT, and common security best practices
- Basic understanding of network segmentation, DMZs, and perimeter security
- Ability to resolve network performance and connectivity issues
- Travel to remote sites to set, configure or troubleshoot network problems
- Cable and connect both copper and fiber equipment
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Prioritize tasks
- Netscout hardware
- Network hardware configuration (Experience with Juniper is a plus)
- Networking and systems technologies
- Operating Systems, Database, messaging, and other enterprise applications
- Project Management concepts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, preferred
- Three to Five years applicable work experience in IT with emphasis in networking.
- Experience managing and maintaining complex networking systems and hardware, such as Juniper or Cisco.
- Network or systems certification preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience deemed acceptable by the Office of Innovation & Technology and Human Resources also considered.
Additional Information
Salary Range: $64,470 - $78,792
Starting salary to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
