The Northeast Philadelphia airport is situated on 1150 acres in the northeast part of the City of Philadelphia, PNE is Pennsylvania’s third busiest airport, providing “on call” US Customs, Immigrations and United States Department of Agriculture services to corporate international travel. The Airport averages 215-based aircraft, dominated by single engine aircraft, plus twins, jets, turboprops and helicopters.

Job Description

Airport Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of insurance claims (pre-suit and litigated) related to incidents at Philadelphia International and Northeast Airports, including coverage analysis, investigation of liability, reserve setting, negotiation of settlements, and litigation management, while ensuring compliance with City policies and industry regulations.

Must be available to be on-call 24 hours a day for accidents, property, and liability emergencies.

Essential Functions

  • First point of contact for all claims
  • Reviews daily incident reports (Highlights) for potential claims
  • Promptly reviewing and assessing airport-related claims for coverage validity, potential liability, and damage extent and managing notices
  • Conducting thorough incident investigations by gathering information from various sources like airport authorities, pilots, ground crew, witnesses, City departments, and contractors, and reviewing accident reports to determine cause and liability.
  • Conducts investigations on all potentially loss-producing incidents and seeks solutions to mitigate
  • Provides immediate and prompt notice of all lawsuits to the insurance carrier
  • Analyzes claim reports and designs programs to mitigate or eliminate exposure
  • Liaise with Law Department to coordinate and manage legal efforts
  • Evaluates and proposes solutions to complex liability issues.
  • Develops and coordinates efforts to control or mitigate loss-producing conditions and activities from the traveling public and airport users including claims for property damage, personal injury, facility hazards, and related events
  • Prepares written narratives in response to personal injury or property damage claims.
  • Maintains file of all Airport property damage and bodily injury claims
  • Requests estimates from various departments, invoices known damage causer and collects all outstanding bills. Recovers from the liable party property damage expenses.
  • Maintains the relationship with the Airport’s insurance company and broker of record
  • Organizes and leads quarterly claims meetings
  • Ensures timely and accurate recording of losses, claims, insurance premiums, coverage, and other risk-related costs and experience factors.
  • Prepares analysis of claim frequency, claim trends, and other statistically significant data and provides recommendations on containment strategies and loss-reduction programs.
  • Approves litigation strategies
  • May be required to give legal testimony
  • Obtains Police reports of accidents from the Police Department. Determines the need for additional Police investigations and coordinates those investigations with the Police Department.
  • Attend aviation safety committee meetings as requested.
  • Sets appropriate reserves based on potential damages and legal considerations.
  • Negotiating and approving settlements with claimants, attorneys, and third parties to achieve cost-effective resolutions.
  • Managing legal aspects of complex claims, including coordinating with outside legal counsel, attending mediations, securing and preserving legal documentation and preparing for trials when necessary.
  • Providing regular updates on claim status, identifying trends, and analyzing loss data to inform risk management strategies.
  • Analyzing data to identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Maintaining open and effective communication with brokers, carriers, ground handling agents, security personnel, and other department employees, including providing updates on claim progress and addressing concerns
  • Developing and implementing claims handling policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable aviation insurance regulations and industry standards.
  • Staying updated on relevant aviation laws and regulations regarding passenger rights and liabilities
  • Providing regular updates on claim status, identifying trends, and analyzing loss data to inform risk management strategies. Analyzing data to identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

Must be available to be on-call 24 hours a day for accidents, property, and liability emergencies.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management or Insurance. A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience related to the duties listed above. Related education and experience may be substituted, one for the other, on a year-for-year basis.
  • AIC-M, CCP, CPCU preferred
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations in an aviation related environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful relationships with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to relate well verbally and in written media with public, tenants, attorneys, and employees, including statistical analysis, conflict resolution, and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of computers and associated software.
  • Understanding of aviation insurance coverage, bodily injury, property damage and liability policies.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess complex claims and determine liability.
  • Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution abilities
  • Proven experience managing litigation and working with legal counsel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse stakeholders

Salary Range: $87,000 - $100,000
