Position Summary

Oversees COH research protocols, sponsored research protocols, and commercial protocols for CAR T Cell program and other cellular therapy programs including genetically modified CD34 cells and cytotoxic lymphocytes. This person is responsible for maintaining current versions of lab protocols, attending site visits and other related meetings, writing SOPs, training, updating protocol binders with new versions and patients on study, corresponding with protocol personnel regarding study-related issues, receipt of products and infusion orders, and product quality certificates. Prepares and participates in audits conducted by protocol personnel, and assumes other related activities as delegated by the Supervisor of Stem Cell Lab and Director of Transfusion Medicine Laboratories. Additionally, performs cryopreservation procedures used to store Stem Cell products used for patient transplantation, performs thawing procedures used for Stem Cell infusion, and performs all procedures in compliance with written SOPs and FACT, AABB and FDA regulations.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates research and commercial cellular therapy product activities.
  • Notifies supervisor of unusual results or discrepancies.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Writes SOPs and training plans; trains staff
  • Performs stem cell processing, cryopreservation and reinfusion procedures in compliance with written SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilizes standard laboratory equipment and records and checks results for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintains the theoretical and procedural knowledge necessary to perform and interpret assigned procedures performed within the Laboratory.
  • Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient service.
  • Practices quality control methods common to area of expertise.
  • Performs data entry of product testing information.
  • Participates in quality assurance program, performs competency testing when assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Develops and maintains skills in order to provide coverage as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Calculates product counts and reviews for accuracy and completeness before reporting.
  • Maintains a positive image when dealing with department personnel and other City of Hope employees.
  • Takes call on weekend and as needed to provide coverage for the department.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One year related experience.
  • MT(ASCP) or California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (CLS).

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Master's Degree.
  • MT (ASCP).
  • Cryopreservation or stem cell processing

Additional Information:
  • To protect the health of patients and staff and to comply with new State of California mandates, City of Hope staff are required to show proof of full vaccination by September 30, 2021. Compliance is a condition of employment.
