Position Summary

Performs a variety of technical as well as supervisory procedures in the Nuclear Medicine department.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Oversees the work of the Nuclear Medicine personnel in conjunction with Imaging Manager. Keeps Nuclear Medicine protocols current by interacting with the Radiologists.
  • Prepares staffing schedules, orients personnel, provides coaching and mentoring to the staff. Participates in performance evaluations.
  • Provides guidance and supervision of work and patient flow.
  • Serves as the Nuclear Medicine Student coordinator with affiliated Nuc Med School programs.
  • Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure and to keep informed of the latest trends in the field of Nuclear Medicine.
  • Utilizes protective shielding and prescribed safety standards in handling radioactive sources.
  • Provides patient safety and education, as required.
  • Assists Radiologist in preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to the patient.
  • Responsible for performing radionuclide procedures on patients of all ages, inclusive of organ imaging, function studies, computer analysis and assisting the physician in the therapeutic administration of radioisotopes under prescribed conditions.
  • Responsible for equipment calibration checks/field uniformity, and reporting/scheduling equipment maintenance, as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment accreditation as required by the various entities.
  • Develops, maintains and participates in staff educational programs. Provides technical instructions to other departments and acts as a technical resource for personnel in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Assists with the implementation and compliance of the various research protocols requiring Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT studies.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Minimum Education:
  • Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program.
Minimum Experience:
  • Seven years Nuclear Medicine Technologist in a Hospital setting.
Required Courses/Training:
  • Accredited program in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
Req. Certification/Licensure:
  • California State Certification in Nuclear Medicine (CNMT); Certification in Computed Tomography - ARRT (CT).
  • Certification in Venipuncture.
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
Preferred Courses/Training:
  • Management skills courses.
Machines/Equipment:

Gamma Cameras; SPECT-CT; Thyroid Probe; PET-CT to include Diagnostic CT; CT Power Injector.
