Position Summary

The Manager, Commercial Research Development will have responsibility for a range of activities that in the aggregate will enhance commercializing early discoveries through licensing, further internal development, and/or creation of new, early stage companies based on COH discoveries.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Anticipating and following industry trends in therapy development
  • This work will be conducted by obtaining information from databases, industry and science journals, attending research and drug development conferences, and regular and broad discussion with biopharma companies. This work will culminate in a continuing evolving database of therapies sought by industry and active research in medical centers, research institutions, and in biopharmas. The Manager of Commercial R&D will prepare weekly reports, updates of biopharma news relevant to the therapeutic areas of interest at COH with an impact analysis. Coverage of results of major life sciences conferences is expected as well.
  • Identifying areas for new therapy development
  • This will be the byproduct of understanding and analyzing industry trends as well as carefully reviewing and cataloguing COH's research portfolio to identify discoveries that can be developed into new therapies.
  • The results of items 1 and 2 will be proposals for focusing COH's research agenda, introducing COH discoveries to potential biopharma partners, and seeking funding/support for both further internal development of discoveries as well as partnership with biopharmas.
  • Identifying potential partners interested in science and preclinical drug development at COH
  • Works closely with the Director by supporting licensing activities and structure transactions that fulfill market needs/opportunities, provide a target return for COH, and provide flexibility in the relationship to allow adaptation when there is a need to adjust plans and pathways during the collaboration.
  • Identifying potential market opportunities that COH might fulfill with new research initiatives
  • The Manager of Commercial R&D works closely with the Director and Senior Manager to highlight unmet market needs and will help prepare presentations outlining potential opportunities to senior management.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's Degree in molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry, or related fields
  • 5 years of biopharma industry experience in business development, licensing, market research, search and evaluation, and/or related areas, preferably with a background in oncology. 1 year of experience in a manager level position.

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Master's preferred
  • Experience working with databases, preparing data rooms for due diligence, be knowledgeable about patents, have experience with excel and power point, financial modeling, possess strong qualitative and quantitative analytic skills, be intellectually curious, and derive great personal fulfillment from solving complex problems. The ability to prosper in ambiguity and uncertainty is essential, as well as the ability to draft materials for and communicate effectively with scientific and lay audiences.

Additional Information:
