An Engineering Technician II job is available with the Transportation & Public Works Department, Capital Delivery Division. The candidate will need to have extensive experience in technical and administrative duties related to land surveying, design, mapping, drafting, record keeping, and administrative activities. This position will conduct research, review specifications, collect, record, and analyze technical data as it relates to construction, transportation, and other surveying related project areas. The candidate will provide technical assistance to professional level staff, record project redline records, and administer project location geodatabase records. The candidate will also administer Headlight inspection logging software for the inspection department, process invoices, and provide excellent internal and external customer service.

The Engineering Technician II job responsibilities include:
  • Support professional level staff during project execution by performing a variety of tasks in support of assigned area including design, mapping, drafting and related areas.
  • Assist in the preparation of exhibits, drawings, specifications, estimates, or other project documents. Draft exhibits for land surveying and mapping projects including streets, storm, water, sewer, utilities, and other capital improvement projects.
  • Creates close, and archive project folders.
  • Research, verify, and compile data from various sources (previous surveys, courthouse records, title documents, maps, deeds, legal descriptions, file folders, etc.) for use by survey teams.
  • Receive "redline" construction records from project inspectors, record receipt, and then scan and/or upload received records/drawings onto the City's file server in a pre-determined folder structure in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Receive and enter geospatial data and associated metadata for ongoing projects into the City's Google Earth and/or ArcGIS databases in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Uses Microsoft Excel spreadsheets or related software in order to prepare and maintain project records and reports.
  • Administrator "Headlight" inspection software for the department, including but not limited to: adding new projects into the software, managing user accounts, and other duties as deemed appropriate.
  • Create various official documents using Microsoft Word such as, but not limited to, "Metes and Bounds" land survey descriptions, as directed by professional level staff.
  • Perform the "receiving" role for invoice processing and accounts payable tasks using PeopleSoft ERP Financial software according to generally accepted accounting principles, established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements
  • Submits orders for materials, supplies, and services as required by department.
  • Provide information to supervisory staff, employees, the public, contractors, and consultants relative to office business and technical matters.
  • Serve as a point-of-contact for customers, the general public, and contracted vendors through telephone, email, or in-person communication. Assist with inquiries (including follow-up research, as needed), follow complaint resolution policies/procedures, or forward communications to appropriate personnel.
  • Answers phone calls, screens clients, and schedules meetings.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Architecture or related field
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience in the areas of drafting, project design, review/analysis of projects for conformance of established standards, and/or land surveying.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
