Staff Software Engineer

Chewy is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join an established technology team in Boston, MA! At Chewy, it is our mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents and partners everywhere! We have evolved into an innovative Fortune 500 industry leader. In this role, you will be the technical leader for Chewy’s Connect with a Vet platform owning several services while developing and executing highly complex and ambiguous implementations. You will work across multiple teams at Chewy guiding them on the use of architecture, coding patterns, languages, and frameworks in accordance with industry trends. We continue to grow and always Think Big about new innovative ideas, while consistently exploring opportunities to differentiate ourselves in the industry.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and deliver complex initiatives by defining and providing guidance on service architecture, data architecture, dev-ops, infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and public cloud services
- Evaluate new technologies and advocate for their use in appropriate applications
- Lead team on mitigation, resolution, and investigation and continuous improvement for complex production problems that span across services
- Foster a culture of testing and observability across teams and helps use operational data to improve stability and performance of their systems
- Advise stakeholders on improvements and optimizations to features, practices, processes, and operations
- Ensure that technical solutions for your team are reliable, easily maintainable, and scalable under sustained load
- Coach and mentor Team Members by providing feedback, recommendations, and insight into the decision-making processes
- Participate in or spearhead functional guild to establish and drive technologies and processes across the organization
- Develop in-depth knowledge of several Chewy business processes and systems spanning multiple teams
- Influence software engineering team hiring practices and hiring decisions
- Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to operational excellence

What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with 3+ years acting in a technical lead capacity focusing on modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks like React and Java with related frameworks like Spring Boot for RESTful APIs and microservices
- Experience with DevOps standards along with AWS, Terraform, Jenkins, and CICD pipelines
- Strong experience designing, building, deploying, operating, scaling, testing, and evolving distributed systems and high-volume transaction applications for a 24/7 environment
- Position may require travel
