We are hiring a Machine Learning Engineer/Data Scientist in either Bellevue, WA, Boston, MA or remote. In this position, you will work on all stages of model development from idea, analysis, architecture, pipeline, tuning, experimentation, and feedback loop. Your work will directly impact millions of customers who shop for their furry friends every day. This team focuses on learning, and on working together as a team to not only deploy model to production but also advance our modeling technique.

What you'll do:

  • You will partner peer MLE, Program Managers, Merchandizing, along with top engineers at Chewy.
  • You will be responsible for science projects from idea, to offline evaluation, to deployment, to experiment, to feedback, to model improvements for not only your science projects.
  • Formalizing assumptions about how models are encouraged to behave, crafting definitions of outliers, developing methods to systematically identify these outliers, and explaining why they are reasonable or identifying fixes for them.
  • Presenting verbally and in writing to business customers with different levels of technical knowledge, educating them about our research, as well as sharing insights and recommendations.
  • Work with a team of incredible people who are passionate about data science, machine learning, search & personalization.

What You'll Need:

  • An advanced degree (Undergrad, M.S. or equivalent experience) in Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science or related field or 10 + years of proven experience crafting optimization and machine learning solutions for large scale applications.
  • Ability to understand and apply sophisticated mathematics and DS methodologies.
  • Experience in building distributed pipeline, tuning, optimizing and evaluation.
  • Experience with different techniques that include Predictive Models (Time Series and Regression), Linear, NLP/NLU, Search, Ranking and LLM & generative AI.
  • Ability to translate complex data sets and research into simple business recommendations.
  • Experience growing junior data science team members.

Bonus:

  • Experience in e-commerce or retail.
  • Experience with ML Services in AWS (SageMaker, Personalize) or equivalent.
