Corporate External Affairs Advisor

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

-Part of the corporate External Affairs team, the External Affairs Advisor is responsible for strategic media engagement, external communications planning, and issues and crisis management.

-The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, stressful environment driven by media deadlines as well as highly complex and sensitive business/political issues.

-Responsible for advancing Chevron’s reputation and visibility through stakeholder engagement with media outlets, industry associations, external business partners, and industry observers/commentators.

-Bring experience and expertise to supporting executive visibility in media and public engagements and managing issues and crises that potentially impact corporate reputation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 10 years of experience in communications and media relations, including extensive experience of U.S. politics/Washington D.C.; energy industry experience preferred.

  • Possess strong planning and writing skills, as well as refined interpersonal skills to exert influence.

  • Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively across a complex corporate structure.

  • Experience in using social media and digital platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing complicated reputational challenges as well as crisis management, with a demonstrated ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion and to calmly lead through unforeseen events.

  • Presentation skills appropriate for senior-level audiences. Act as corporate spokesperson for issues that pose corporate reputational risk.

  • Must be able to build relationships effectively and manage multiple workstreams across different functional teams, cultivating effective relationships with key stakeholders such as media and industry representatives, and developing stories that support business objectives.

Relocation Options:

Relocation will not be considered.

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
