This position is part of the Data Science & Analytics chapter responsible for providing Data Science and Analytics expertise and solution delivery across Chevron. The function of this role is to understand data in the larger context of the business and the value chain to transform data into insights for better decision-making through scientific exploration, analytics and data. The Business Intelligence Analyst is accountable for leading data analytics initiatives within Chevron business by performing data analysis, translating data requirements to technical requirements, and driving insights to business problems and decisions. 

Key job responsibilities:

Works closely with the product owner and business stakeholders to:

  • Have an in-depth understanding of business problem in hand
  • Access, gather, and analyze data from source systems
  • Help frame the business problem by providing quantitative and qualitative data analysis (data quality, availability, etc.)
  • Drive insights to business problems by visualizing the data and telling a story through data (report patterns, trends, anomalies, etc.)
  • Participates in the end-to-end product development lifecycle as a member of agile team:
  • Contribute to data analysis, data wrangling, data visualization, and user acceptance testing
  • Present findings and new development in order to help refine backlog items


Required education / degrees:

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics or Engineering degree required.

Required qualifications / certifications:

  • Technical Capability- Demonstrated ability in programmatic data retrieval and analysis using statistical and/or general purpose programming language; data visualization to bring insights from a large data set
  • Business Engagement- A fundamental understanding of business and ability to collaborate and build relationships across the organization to apply data science analytics to improve workflows and deliver information and insight to support business decisions.
  • Communication- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and understandable manner both orally and in writing.  Listens carefully and asks questions to understand the views, concerns, and comments of others.

Required work experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in business workflow improvement using business intelligence tools and techniques
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, TIBCO Spotfire
  • Experience in deployment of BI products to business end users


Other preferred skills / competencies

  • Microsoft Azure services
  • Experience in SQL
  • Experience in Design Thinking for business problem framing
  • Experience with UI/UX requirements management
  • Experience in oil and gas value chain is preferred
  • Geographic mobility is a plus
  • Awareness of current and emerging trends for business intelligence and data analytics
