We’re looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer who can help us design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable, reliable infrastructure built in our cloud environments. As a DevOps Engineer at Checkr, you will work closely with our Infrastructure team to design, build, and improve our current infrastructure and drive the modernization of legacy applications to cloud-native solutions. You will also partner with our other engineering teams to enable their services to be more performant, scalable, observable, and reliable. We are looking for someone that can bring their expertise, experience and perspective to the team to help us build solutions that empower holistic and tangible transformation at every level.

Responsibilities:

  • Write, Review, Apply and Merge Terraform
  • Maintain and administer (2 or more) MSSQL, mysql, postgresql, Mongo, ELK
  • Work towards integrating various technologies towards a target state 
  • Design & Develop highly available systems 
  • Assist in development of policies and directives, develop architectural documents to be shared internally and externally
  • Engage with Product and ensure that initial user stories are vetted from a production standpoint prior to being implemented, whenever possible
  • Ensure that best practices are met or exceeded as it relates to different teams touching production and provide recommendations and feedback in review sessions
  • Identify and track metrics, consistently monitor OKR in order to exceed SLA expectations
  • Designs and creates networks, VPCs and infrastructure for shared services, completes projects without supervision
  • Consistently and continuously lower MTTR as it relates to system incidents as well as help reduce MTTR for incidents by means of immediate resolutions and post hoc automation
  • Create robust monitoring/alarming and self-healing feature sets
  • Conduct and assist with investigations, test and deployment activities, identify and mitigate risks in the design process
  • Guide junior engineers and dev teams with best practices as related to infrastructure

What you bring:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ direct experience in a similar role OR minimum of 5 years’ experience with Master’s degree in Computer Science
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or STEM field strongly preferred 
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect 
  • Experience with AWS or Azure, understanding of Cloud concepts 
  • Strong database administration skills
  • Ability to write SQL and ELK queries, advanced Linux skills, diagnostic experience with monitoring applications (APM), APM configuration, basic IAM management, TCP/IP and OSI proficiency, and AWS proficiency.
  • Ability to merge and apply PRs (Ansible and Terraform)
  • Deep understanding of release cycles and SDLC
  • Ability manage VMW devices 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Listening, teamwork, analysis, reasoning and problem solving, time management, attention to details and works well with others.

We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop ranges for our roles and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range. The base salary range for this role is $157,877 to $213,598 in San Francisco, CA.
