Senior Portfolio Manager, Options Overlay - Schwab Asset Management (SAM)

SAM is looking to offer a range of options-based strategies to its network of clients. These strategies will initially be deployed through separately managed accounts and are intended to help clients generate income, manage risks, and/or diversify large, concentrated holdings in a tax aware manner. SAM is seeking a Senior Portfolio Manager, Options Overlay to help lead our effort to build out our investment process, technology platform, and investment team to support this important growth opportunity. This long-term initiative will require collaboration, patience, and effective prioritization and decision-making.

Key Outcomes:
- Work with SAM leaders to design and implement a scalable investment process to deliver concentrated stock hedging and income-generation strategies to Schwab clients.
- Work with Wealth & Asset Management Engineering and other business partners to enhance or build portfolio management, trading, and operations infrastructure to support options-based strategies at scale.
- Collaborate with colleagues in product, offer management, marketing, and sales to articulate the value proposition and possible use cases for options strategies.
- As the business grows, help recruit and manage a team of portfolio managers.
- Consult as a subject matter expert on use of options strategies in other SAM product offerings.
- Lead execution of a disciplined and systematic investment process.
SAM is a matrixed organization; thus, the successful candidate displays outstanding collaboration skills and has experience building partnerships across an organization.
What you have
Required Experience:
- Ten or more years of experience managing hedged equity or multi-asset strategies utilizing derivatives including options, futures, and/or swaps.
- Keen understanding of concentrated stock hedging service and experience in developing, launching and delivering new product in an environment of similar scale and complexity.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the equity options markets, options strategies, options pricing data sources, and investment platform requirements to support these strategies.
- Bachelor's degree required; CFA designation and/or post-graduate degree with a quantitative discipline preferred.
- Strong leadership and communication skills including direct management of portfolio managers and/or traders required.
- Outstanding analytical skills, particularly around equity options, coupled with reasoned judgment and qualitative insights driving excellence in investment leadership.
- Strength at building a team of talented investment professionals and optimizing their performance. Able to motivate, mentor, and lead by example.
- Experience collaborating with client-facing, sales and marketing teams on activities furthering the success of the business.

- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Commands the attention and respect of various audiences. A clear and credible presentation style.
- An ambassador for the firm and our mission of driving growth through supporting clients.
- Demonstrated strength in cultivating and maintaining relationships with options market makers, technology vendors, and other key industry stakeholders.
- Resourceful, proactive, and able to prioritize and navigate in a fast-paced environment.
- Disciplined self-starter who can utilize downtime on value-add projects and additional trade analysis
- Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound business judgment.
