The AI Incubation team is looking for a talented, technical, hands-on Lead Engineer to drive the development of innovative AI solutions. This position will be focused on leading the team in development practices, operational standards and platform evolution while driving rapid, iterative software development using Large Language Models.

The Lead Engineer on the AI Incubation team is a hands-on development position. You will be considered one of the strongest developers on the team with deep technical knowledge as well as the ability to help other team members in solving complex technical issues. You will help provide design and architecture guidance for applications that the team builds from the ground up, and work closely with other architects, technologists, and business partners to define the strategy for the team and align with Schwab organization, platform, and overall technology strategies. You will mentor engineers on proper platform and application solutions and will focus on building strong technology practices on the team.
You have a bias for action and are good at finding a way to make progress and execute even in the face of complex technical challenges. You are constantly learning about advances in technology across the industry and bringing the knowledge to the team to help with continuous innovation and adoption of new standards and best practices. What you have
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degrees in Computer Science or related field.
- 7+ years of experience as a hands-on senior engineer across multiple agile teams in startups and large organizations.
- 4+ years of technical leadership experience related to delivery of enterprise applications, platforms and services.
- Experience building complex products from scratch and running them in production.
- Strong computer science fundamentals and experience working across different parts of the tech stack.
- Hands-on working knowledge of containers and the ability to operationalize them in the public cloud with infrastructure as code. Experience using cloud-native services and architecting cloud-native applications.
- Experience building applications that interface with large datasets, including complex data pipelines.
- Experience building applications that use AI models to deliver business value
- Experience working with LLMs and shipping LLM-powered applications to production is a big plus.
- Experience with Python, Java and Angular preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or advanced degrees in Computer Science or related field.
- Focus on quality in everything you do. Continue to raise the bar and drive others to deliver high-quality products and service, with experience writing tests at all levels of the test pyramid.
- Strong communication skills - you balance written and verbal communication to clearly share your perspective with others within the organization.
- Experience mentoring engineers and helping them grow their technical skills through clear feedback and code reviews, while also providing non-technical feedback to help with more holistic development.
- Demonstrated mindset of continuous learning and improvement that you help instill in other members of the team.
- Ability to solve complex problems with ambiguous or incomplete data in highly distributed systems.
- Demonstrated deep business domain knowledge related to all products you have worked on.
- Experience leading large projects across multiple teams, developing engineering leaders through delegation.
- Curiosity about new technologies and processes - you always seek to improve yourself and everyone around you and proactively seek and share knowledge with others outside of your team.
