The Balance Sheet Strategy, FTP, Hedging, and BDA team is a team within our Corporate Treasury department. We are responsible for balance sheet management strategy, portfolio and brokered deposit notional investment allocation decisions, balance sheet modeling and analytics, market risk management, and ALM derivatives.

The overall team manages fixed-income investments and asset liability management across several portfolios totaling over $200 billion, with approximately $500 billion in total balance sheet assets and $85 billion in off-balance-sheet brokered deposit agreement notional investments.

This director-level role will report to the Managing Director, Balance Sheet Strategy, FTP, Hedging, and BDA, and manage the team responsible for our balance sheet strategy, investment portfolio strategy, and net interest margin optimization across three banks, an off-balance sheet sweep deposit portfolio, and a broker dealer. The Director will oversee the development, message delivery to senior leaders, execution of the firm's balance sheet management framework, and will partner with investment portfolio traders and other business partners to build strategy that aligns with firm's risk appetite. In addition, this individual will lead and develop a team of balance sheet strategists that plays a key role in achieving the risk-return optimization mandate within ALM, with emphasis on interconnectedness of liquidity, capital and interest rate risks.

What you have

Required:

  • 10+ years of career experience in treasury, finance, corporate strategy and/or ALM roles of progressive level of responsibility and a minimum of five years of experience at an institution with similar size and complexity as Charles Schwab.
  • Experience managing the risks associated with a combined broker-dealer and bank(s) balance sheet business model
  • 3+ years of people leadership including overseeing diverse teams and motivating employees to achieve both tactical and strategic delivery goals.
  • Deep expertise of fixed income markets and modeling, asset liability management, and balance sheet strategy, including portfolio optimization, derivatives hedging strategies, and expertise in the ALM complexities associated with large non-maturity deposit portfolios.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience facilitating and interacting with executives, and ability to influence and drive decisions for strategic decisions for the balance sheet
  • Enthusiasm to work in white space and the proven ability to create innovative analyses to help drive the strategy for the company with creative and actionable solutions
  • Experience with fixed income modeling in systems such as PolyPaths, BlackRock, Murex, Intex, Bloomberg, QRM, Calypso.
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining composure in a potentially stressful environment
  • Bachelor's degree required

Preferred:

  • Professional certification, such as CFA, FRM or PRM, preferred
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with fixed income modeling in systems such as PolyPaths, BlackRock, Murex, Intex, Bloomberg, QRM, Calypso.
  • Proven track record of shaping strategy and leading with influence.
  • Experience managing the risks associated with a combined broker-dealer and bank(s) balance sheet business model
  • Successful history of building and cultivating strong authentic relationships with internal/external business partners.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
