The Business Strategy team within Schwab's Client Service & Support organization enables leaders across the service organization to explore and set strategy, prioritize our investments, understand the perspective of our clients, and tell our strategic story along the way. As a Strategy Director (IC), you will be charged with developing, testing and delivering strategic projects and programs across a range of high-stakes strategic results for the service organization. You will work across the Retail organization alongside senior leaders and a hardworking team of strategy and industry veterans who are defining the Schwab of the future.

This is an individual contributor role that requires high levels of self-direction, intellectual discipline and business acumen. You will simultaneously work multiple, complex, cross-functional initiatives, collaborating closely with leaders and colleagues in service delivery, operations support, workforce, technology and client experience. Your work will range from strategic assessment to solution design, alignment, and execution planning - all while serving as the central driver of process, insight, and clarity.
As a Strategy Director (IC) you are responsible for:
- Strategy Development & Problem Structuring:
- Break down complex operational and client-facing challenges into structured workstreams and clear hypotheses.
- Conduct root cause analysis, develop solution frameworks, and articulate tradeoffs.
- Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence
- Partner with leaders and across service delivery, operations support, technology, digital, risk, workforce, and transformation teams.
- Build consensus around solution direction through influence, insight and data.
- Support firm wide strategic or transformational initiatives by providing well-structured, clearly communicated recommendations that are proactively socialized within the service team.
- Exercise discipline in gaining input, testing alignment, and securing support before advancing work externally or into executive forums.
- Build lasting and trust-based relationships with cross-functional partners by establishing credibility through transparency, responsiveness, and thoughtful engagement.
- Strategic Project Management
- Own the lifecycle of each strategic initiative - from discovery through socialization and execution planning.
- Create Project workplans, align timelines, and hold yourself accountable for pace, milestones, and communication.
- Analytical Mastery & Data Driven Decisioning
- Appling data fluency and advanced insight development know-how to identify, collect and command required data into clear business-relevant insights that drive strategic clarity and informed action leveraging modern tools (e.g. python, Power BI, excel).
- Rigorously apply structured problem solving (e.g. issue trees, decision matrices, A/B testing) to frame complex problems, evaluate options, and guide evidence-based recommendations that withstand leadership scrutiny.
- Insight Synthesis & Executive Communication
- Conduct structured interviews and meetings, analyze service delivery and financial data, and develop compelling recommendations in a matrix environment.
- Present findings to senior leadership with clarity, relevance and executive presence.
- Execution Planning & Handoff
- Develop Clear implementation roadmaps, align cross functional owners, and transition work to delivery teams with minimum loss in momentum or vision.
- Strategic Enablement and Peer Development
- Model behaviors of ownership, transparency and follow-through to build trust-based relationships within the strategy team, alignment to the principles of "See It, Own It, Solve It, Do It."
- Contribute to the broader strategy team by identifying and sharing reusable models, templates and analytical approaches that can be applied across initiatives.
- Identify patterns and codify best practices that raise the strategic quality of the team's collective work.

- Strong consulting-style capabilities: structured thinking, hypothesis-driven problem solving, and presentation development.
- Proven experience driving initiatives that cross organizational boundaries.
- Demonstrated high degree of self-motivation - can set direction, organize process, and deliver results without external management.
- Mastery of analytics, research, and attention to detail.
- Strong working knowledge of frontline functions, client experience, or service delivery metrics in a service center or large-scale customer-facing environment.
- Thrive on initiating, building, and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group, navigates and activates alignment across organizational silos.
- Exceptional communication and influence skills - can tailor messages to senior stakeholders, peers, frontline support, and frontline team alike.
- Comfort with ambiguity and change - can drive progress in loosely defined or politically complex environments.
What you have
Requirements:
- 7-10 years of experience within management consulting, corporate strategy or strategic operations, or internal strategy teams within financial services or customer-service
- Master's degree preferred, or equivalent experience gained through structured, high-accountability roles such as management consulting, corporate strategy, or similar environments where deep coaching, feedback, and structured problem solving were core to the role.
- Bachelor's degree in business or quantitative field that emphasis application of the scientific method such as: Finance, Economics, Math, Statistics, Engineering.
- Proven ability to independently lead and deliver strategic initiatives of similar complexity, scope, and ambiguity as outlined above - including data-driven problem solving, stakeholder socialization, structured execution planning, and cross-functional influence without direct authority.
- Strong team-oriented mindset, able to focus on team-goals and both leverage and contribute to a peer-support team model
- Demonstrated commitment to personal accountability and trust-building, consistent with the principles of The Oz Principle.
