Position Summary
The Library Technician is responsible for managing and maintaining the collection in a library. This includes acquiring, cataloging, and processing publications such as magazines, journals, newspapers, and other ongoing publications. The technician ensures accurate records of subscriptions, handles renewals, and manages the physical organization of the collection. This position assists library patrons with locating and accessing materials, as well as providing basic reference and research assistance.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages the CNM Library's capitalized and non-capitalized inventory.
- Delivers library materials to five (5) branch campuses weekly using a CNM vehicle.
- Staff Library Help Desks to assist patrons with various needs, loan library materials to patrons, and collect returned materials.
- Sort and re-shelve returned books, periodicals, and other materials.
- Teaches patrons how to use library resources and assists with library technology.
- Takes meeting minutes as assigned and schedules vendor visits.
- Sorts and delivers incoming mail and sends outgoing mail.
- Takes delivery of library materials and equipment and schedules service calls for library equipment.
- Orders, receives, tracks, and distributes office supplies.
- Assembles and maintains library furniture and shelving.
- Organizes and manages library staff areas (kitchen, mail room, staff lounge, supply closet, etc.).
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations, procedures, protocols, and OSHA standards, and wears personal protective gear if required.
- Performs other related duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Associate's Degree in related field
AND - One (1) year of recent and related library experience OR equivalent library education and experience
- Valid NM DL required
Preferences
- Experience working in a higher education environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel
- Ability to communicate in at least one other language besides English
- Experience organizing and coordinating general office operations
