Position Summary
The Advisor is a professional who provides guidance, advice, and expertise in a specific field or industry related to a student's course work at CNM and other institutions. The Advisor plays a pivotal role in promoting the mission of the college, fostering academic achievement, and providing guidance and support to students in making informed educational decisions. Advisors specialize in various areas such as financial planning, career development, academic advising, legal matters, or business strategy. This position collaborates with various programs aimed at enhancing CNM enrollment, student retention, and success and undertakes responsibilities that directly impact enrollment, persistence, retention, and graduation rates. The Advisor plays a role in student retention efforts by identifying at-risk students, providing interventions, and connecting students with support services to address academic and personal challenges.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides academic advisement and coaching for credit and non-credit programs.
- Maintains knowledge and skills of advisement-related best practices as well as institutional, state, and national higher education policies and practices-learning and applying changes as they occur.
- Provides career exploration and connection to CNM and community career resources.
- Shares CNM resources to facilitate student persistence and success.
- Provides targeted outreach to coach students toward their goals; remains on the educational path at CNM; and promotes student retention, graduation, and transfer.
- Monitors and documents student academic progress including support to students at risk of not being retained.
- Implements advisement strategies to achieve and improve institutional standards related to enrollment, persistence, retention, graduation, and transfer.
- Supports student satisfaction by engaging with students in a variety of ways to meet individual student needs.
- Assists with projects, collaboration, and communication with other departments, divisions, and community partners.
- Works may be performed at multiple locations to support department needs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- AND
- Two (2) years of advisement or related experience
Preferences:
- Bilingual
- Experience working at a Community College
