  • The Epic Technical Engineer plays a crucial role in driving the successful delivery of CDW Healthcare Epic solutions. By collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, this specialist ensures that Epic solutions are deployed and tested according to best practices. Additionally, they stay informed about current and emerging Epic technology initiatives, contributing to the growth of CDW Healthcare Epic solutions. This role focuses on assisting healthcare clients in managing and migrating their Epic systems across on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments.

Stay current with Epic system trends and developments and make technical recommendations for the Epic system

  • Participating in client Quarterly Business Reviews as necessary

  • Be part of the overall strategist organization to be thought leaders in leveraging technology to positively impact healthcare

  • Interact with customers to help shape future thinking

  • Understanding and evaluating new technology approaches and solutions to understand the value, problem addressed, market potential, and fit into the CDW Healthcare strategic solutions

  • Work with other areas within CDW to develop the solution package to include services, logistics and other capabilities, as appropriate, for solutions selected as CDW offerings for Epic

  • Partnerships

    • Developing relationships with key organizations, manufacturers, and technology providers to further align CDW to the evolving needs of our customers

    • Working closely with multiple stakeholders at the customer to influence the final requirements of the target opportunity, including executives, program leads, project leads, and technical experts

    • Collaborate with sales team to act as subject matter expert for customer visits and presentations, customer conference calls and webinars, as well as participate in all aspects of large solutions

    • Articulating value proposition to sellers, partners and customers.

    • Attending customer onsite meetings, business reviews, and industry days, as needed.

    • Representing company at external business networking opportunities, conferences, and events.

    • Training CDW sellers and sales teams on trends and solutions and mentoring CDW Healthcare sellers on messaging to their customers.

    Technical Delivery

    • Perform Epic upgrades and updates

    • Maintaining and testing processes related to business continuity and disaster recovery

    • Engaging in Epic capacity planning for clients

    • Installing, updating, and managing the monitoring tools of the client's Epic system via Epic's native toolsets and/or any third-party tools as needed

    • Understanding performance, monitoring, and troubleshooting issues

    • Stay current with Epic system trends and developments

    • Developing automation strategies for installing, configuring, and maintaining the Epic system

    • Assisting or performing Epic environment migrations, server migrations, or storage migrations

    • Operational Database Administrators (ODBA) specifics:

    • Creating, managing, and/or updating IRIS per the client's environment strategies, including any IRIS specific configurations for mirroring and/or ECP as needed

    • Configuring and maintaining environment copies per the client's environment strategies

    • Developing and maintaining scripts for system management and backups across multiple platforms

    • Performing AIX to Linux migrations as needed

    • Epic Client Systems Administrators (ECSA) specifics:

    • Managing, maintaining, and implementing the Epic infrastructure for the Web and Service Tier

    • Installing/upgrading and/or deploying Epic applications on servers and clients using Kuiper

    • Management and support from a technical perspective of the Interconnect, Hyperspace, EPS, Web BLOB, Hyperspace Web, BCA, MyChart, Carelink\Healthy Planet, Haiku, Rover, Care Everywhere, Home Health, Kuiper, and System Pulse services

    • Configuring load balancing per requirements of the Epic system

    • Cogito Administrators specifics:

    • Installing, updating, and/or managing Clarity and Caboodle, Cubes, BI Rest, and SlicerDicer across all relevant technology platforms

    • Monitoring, troubleshooting, and/or correcting Clarity and Caboodle data extraction (ETL) jobs

    • Installing Microsoft SQL, and configuring high availability per client requirements

    • Configuring and monitoring SQL backups per client requirements across multiple platforms

    • Education and Certification Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

    • Minimum 5 years' experience in operations in a healthcare provider setting

    • Certification in of the following Epic ODBA, ECSA, or Cogito

    Required Qualifications

    • Strong customer facing skills with a history of building solid relationships

    • Proven track record of success in navigating procurement departments for additional opportunities

    • Demonstrated understanding of technology trends, technology architecture and roadmaps

    • Experience in a leadership role in the implementation of technology solutions involving interfaces, configuration, troubleshooting, training, adoption and support.

    • Experience in a role requiring proven leadership, facilitation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as strong customer service

    • Strong understanding of the healthcare market

    • Proven ability to influence across all functions of an organization

    • Strong strategic planning ability

    • Effective communication skills both oral and written using a variety of styles and techniques appropriate to the audience

    • Excellent presentation skills

    • Demonstrated collaboration behavior with excellent facilitation and negotiation skills.

    • Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to find solutions while working independently.

    • Must be able to communicate effectively and in a constructive manner with management, peers, and coworkers.

    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities/projects, meet deadlines, facilitate change, and delegate responsibility.

    • Travel required as needed

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with other clinical applications

    • Infrastructure as Code or automation experience, preferably with Terraform and Ansible.

    • 5 or more years' experience in assessing business drivers and translating them into qualifiable, quantifiable and tactical solutions

    • Familiarity with innovation philosophies, methodologies and tools including Lean Startup, Business Modeling, Jobs-To-Be-Done, Agile Development, rapid experimentation, and more

    • Understanding of healthcare technologies and the challenges of implementing new technologies into a highly regulated and complex technology ecosystem
