This position will act as a key member of the Payroll department, ensuring that 30,000 associates in over 40 states are paid timely and accurately. The team member will act as a primary contact for our associates in handling complex payroll issues, while proactively identifying and resolving potential problems. Qualified candidates must be able to work in a dynamic, high volume, fast paced environment and demonstrate the ability to multi-task while delivering superior customer service.
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and have a Hybrid work arrangement

What you will do - Essential Responsibilities
- Analyze pay discrepancies and make pay change recommendations based on established policies or guidance from business partners.
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting and responding to questions and/or concerns in a positive, professional and friendly manner both through phone and internal ticketing system.
- Process payroll in multiple states under strict deadlines while ensuring all entries and system outputs comply with all local, state and federal laws.
- Research, analyze and resolve payroll related audit concerns by collecting and evaluating information necessary to make the pay calculation adjustments.
- Peer review the work of other team members and provide feedback when applicable.
- Analyze and process off-cycle pay, including final payments, special payments, adjustments and reversals.
- Assist with the development of payroll policies and procedures, contingency plans and process improvement initiatives by leveraging existing tools and processes.
- Special projects as assigned.
Purpose of the role
This role will serve as an advocate for current and former CarMax associates to ensure pay related questions and concerns are addressed effectively and efficiently. Along with partnering with employees, the person filling this role will be responsible for partnering with stores to ensure associates are paid accurately and timely. Included with these duties, are processing payroll for CarMax weekly and bi-weekly.
Qualifications and Requirements

- Previous payroll experience required
- Experience with Dimensions, Kronos, Workday, and ServiceNow required
- Experience processing and entering Remote to Floor cases into Workday
- Experience performing daily timekeeping auditing in Kronos/Dimensions
- Experience performing bi-weekly payroll processing audits in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Sound numeracy skills, attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven ability to complete tasks in a timely manner while balancing time, multi-tasking and interruptions
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal to associates, managers and business partners
- Proven ability to work effectively either as an individual or member of a team and relate effectively with team members on all levels
