Project Manager, Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
ABOUT THIS JOB
The Project Manager for Strategic Sourcing and Procurement manages and oversees CarMax's Strategic Sourcing projects using widely recognized industry best-practices, sourcing methodologies, tools, and techniques. The focus of this role will be within the Technology category with a focus on Infrastructure, Data Center, VARs and collaboration technology. The role will include end-to-end sourcing project management; negotiations with strategic suppliers; and managing key renewals. The role will include some vendor management responsibilities for key suppliers. The role is fast paced and the incumbent is expected to act with significant autonomy.

WHAT YOU'LL DO - ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute strategic sourcing projects, resulting in the selection of products and suppliers that provide maximum value to CarMax.
- Develop a sourcing strategy for assigned sub-categories that is aligned with the overall Technology Category Strategy.
- Review CarMax purchasing patterns and available forecasts in specific categories; and assess business requirements, historical volumes, and likely future trends.
- Identify sourcing objectives based on business requirements, benchmarks, opportunities and timelines; determine buying and sourcing options (spot buy, RFx, negotiations) and supply alternatives; and identify and pre-qualify supply sources.
- Lead cross-functional teams of business and technical stakeholders to develop clear and concise business requirements aligned with budget requirements and to identify suppliers that best meet CarMax's needs.
- Develop project timelines, briefing documents, and communication plans appropriate to size of project and breadth of stakeholders.
- Evaluate supplier responses and present finalists' proposals along with well-thought-out recommendations to stakeholders.
- Negotiate business and technical terms, service levels and support terms, deliverables, and success criteria leveraging standard contracts and collaborating with Legal, Technology Third Party Security, Audit Services, Accounting, and business teams to ensure that contracts reflect business needs and value required, and requirements for success are thoroughly documented.
- Manage the award and communications to stakeholders and selected suppliers. Communicate the impact of sourcing projects as appropriate to CarMax Leadership / Senior Management.
- Identify, analyze, and measure cost savings, including non-price value opportunities (e.g. cost avoidance) and other deliverables (e.g. quality improvement) against baselines and budgets.
- Manage sub-set of key strategic suppliers to deliver optimal value of the supplier relationship to CarMax.
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond VA or CarMax Technology Hub- Plano, TX and have a Hybrid work arrangement
Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of experience in program or project management required, preferably in strategic sourcing or procurement in the technology category.
- Excellent project management and organization skills, with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, while driving execution in a rapidly changing environment
- Strong verbal and written communication, facilitation and presentation skills;
- Ability to handle sensitive associate and business information with utmost confidentiality
- Ability to partner and work strategically with cross-functional teams to drive overall solutions, while appropriately managing issues and risks and large-scale change management
- Ability to build and maintain positive and influential working relationships across all levels within the organization
- Bachelors degree, preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Experience working with sourcing tools preferred.
