CarMax is seeking a strategic and data-driven Paid Media Manager to drive innovative cross-channel media strategies that elevate the CarMax brand. This role requires deep expertise in awareness media channels, spanning traditional and digital platforms, and a strong grasp of platform creative and measurement best practices.
This role will partner closely with internal media, strategy, analytics, and creative teams, as well as external agency and media partners to develop and execute breakthrough media plans that drive tangible business outcomes for CarMax.

Paid Media Strategy and Execution
- Collaborate with agency partners to develop and implement innovative, data-driven, national paid media strategies across video, programmatic, social, audio, broadcast/streaming TV, OOH, and emerging channels.
- Support campaign execution, ensuring precision and excellence in audience targeting, bidding strategies, and ad placements.
- Ensure all media plans align with brand objectives, are strategically sound, and are executed on time and within budget.
Channel Management
- Identify, recommend, and test new formats, placements, and creative variations to enhance audience engagement and campaign performance.
- Partner with internal creative, strategy, and analytics teams, as well as external agencies, to develop high-performing creative assets.
- Work closely with media vendors to ensure accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
Measurement/Performance Optimization
- Collaborate with analytics teams to define KPIs and establish test plans, learning goals, and measurement frameworks that effectively evaluate media performance.
- Consistently review campaign data, extracting insights to inform real-time optimizations and long-term strategic shifts.
- Provide clear, data-backed reporting on media campaign performance to key internal stakeholders.
Budget Planning and Management
- Assist in the development and oversight of media budgets, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently to meet business goals.
- Review and approve media authorizations and spend forecasts, ensuring accuracy and strategic alignment.
- Partner internally to track and manage actualized spend, ensuring accurate pacing throughout the fiscal year.
Purpose of the role
This will be a key role within the CarMax media team and requires a collaborative and confident media maven passionate about the ever-changing media landscape. This person will have a proven track record of using data and innovative thinking to drive business outcomes. The ideal candidate will be results-focused, delivering and expecting accuracy and great attention to detail. They will also have functional expertise to understand how the work gets done.
Qualifications and Requirements
- 4 - 6+ years of experience in the areas directly relevant to the responsibilities of the position
- Experience with agency/client relations, either on the agency side or on the client side
- Experience managing large marketing budgets and all media channels, traditional and digital platforms
- Comfortable with both brand and performance media
- Effectively builds strong relationships internally and with external partners
- Powered by curiosity, lifelong learner
- Champion of new partners and disruptive technologies and methodologies
- 4-year undergraduate degree in Marketing and/or Advertising or relevant work experience
