The Analyst, Technology Portfolio Operations at CarMax is the primary person responsible for putting together the materials for operational meetings, leading the analysis of portfolio data for reporting and auditing, communicating results to the department, and assisting teams and projects in understanding compliance issues. In this role, they will partner with Technology Managers and Delivery Managers to help plan for the necessary resources required to support all of the key projects in Technology which may include changing project timelines, adjusting priority of other projects, or requesting additional resources.

What you will do - Essential Responsibilities

  • Facilitate planning, analysis, execution and communication around Technology
    Portfolio Operations ceremonies (e.g. Tech Project Sizing, Planning & Prioritization, Portfolio Review)
  • Identify and plan for resources needed to support all projects in Technology; partner with the Technology Manager to resolve resource constraints
  • Drive consistency in tracking and reporting of project data across the Technology organization
  • Support and maintain operational standards, practices, tools, templates, and governance for the Technology organization
  • Audit the delivery management community to validate they are following standards for project tracking
  • Assist individuals who are out of compliance in understanding the changes needed to meet the standards
  • Create and maintain group-wide communications related to Technology portfolio operations that generate broad awareness, alignment, and action with a wide range of audiences
  • Seek to improve process execution; make and implement aligned recommendations to improve operational processes
  • Identify the need for and develop job aids to assist people in following project and portfolio processes

Purpose of the Role

To execute operational tasks for the Technology portfolio, maintain process compliance across projects and teams, and provide ad hoc reporting and support to the Portfolio Manager. This role is the primary point of contact to the department for questions or help.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a business analyst or similar role
  • Bachelors in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Informatics, or Equivalent experience
  • Strong decision making, using all available resources to make good decisions with org practices, tools, and cadences,
  • Organize work and prioritize and manage time well
  • Gains buy-in from others to implement and maintain consistent organizational practices and tool usage related to project intake, approval and tracking.
  • Takes ownership of self-development to build competency-based and functional expertise in delivery management disciplines and operational practices
  • Embrace change and encourage peers (including Program Managers, Project Managers, Delivery Managers, among others) to implement department-wide changes in our delivery management practice or evolutions of best practices
  • Strong active listening skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate clearly and openly through verbal, written, and non-verbal methods.
  • Seek 'win-win' solutions for leadership and associate challenges
  • Able to build and maintain strong relationships

Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of one of the following locations and have a Hybrid work arrangement:

  • Richmond, VA Technology Innovation Center
  • Dallas, TX Technology Hub
