The importance of hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Commerce Platform
As our Staff Software Engineer, Commerce Platform, you'll be at the forefront of building smooth and efficient shopping experiences for our caregiver community. You'll start off as a team of one, but eventually build a dedicated team in managing and evolving our core Orders Platform services, including the cart service, autoship service, fraud service, and checkout service. This is a critical leadership role where you'll drive technical decisions, inspire your team, and directly impact the success of our high-scale ecommerce platform.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the building, maintenance, and optimization of the cart, autoship, fraud, and checkout services.
- Define the technical vision and roadmap for the Orders Platform, ensuring alignment with business goals, technical best practices, and high-scale ecommerce demands.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to understand and translate requirements into efficient, scalable, and secure solutions.
- Design, develop, and deploy robust microservices leveraging Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Typescript, React, Feathers, and modern toolchains.
- Oversee the entire software development lifecycle for assigned services, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within your team, promoting code reviews, continuous improvement, and technical growth.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in e-commerce, microservices, cloud platforms, and web development, with a focus on high-scale solutions.
- Proactively identify and resolve technical challenges and bottlenecks within the Orders Platform.
- Contribute to the overall platform architecture and infrastructure decisions, considering high-scalability requirements.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, helping them hone their skills and expertise in high-scale e-commerce environments.

What you’ll need:
- 10+ years of experience as a software engineer with a proven track record of leading and mentoring teams, particularly in high-scale e-commerce contexts.
- 7+ years of experience as a lead engineer or team lead, demonstrating successful leadership skills and the ability to motivate and empower others.
- 3+ years of experience specifically in high-scale e-commerce development and architecture, understanding the unique challenges and best practices in this domain.
- In-depth knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Kubernetes, and relevant services for high-scale deployments.
- Expertise in Typescript and modern Javascript frameworks like React.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment tools like GitHub Actions.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms like DataDog.
- Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple projects concurrently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for building high-quality software and a desire to learn and adapt to new technologies, with a focus on high-scale solutions.
