Senior Risk Manager - Enterprise Risk Management

Capital One's Strategic Risk team within Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) has responsibility for helping the organization identify, manage, and mitigate key risks that may prevent the company from achieving strategic objectives. The Strategic Risk team is currently hiring a Senior Risk Manager to join the Strategic Risk Management team. The Senior Risk Manager will have the opportunity to apply their risk management and analytical skills to some of our highest profile Risk Management projects, including implementing solutions to ensure Capital One's continued stability and success.

The Strategic Risk Management team plays a key role in assessing, analyzing, and reporting enterprise risks and providing oversight of strategic risks identified throughout the organization. The team is responsible for developing strategic enhancements to existing "business as usual" risk management processes to ensure dynamic and streamlined risk oversight and reporting. The Senior Risk Manager will have exposure across lines of business and the opportunity to work with Risk Executives to create and implement innovative solutions to identify, assess and report key strategic risks to the Company. The Senior Risk Manager will participate in other key risk management programs (e.g., Risk Identification and Risk Appetite programs) to ensure comprehensive risk management and oversight.

General Responsibilities:

  • Partner to implement processes and tools to support oversight of identification, measurement, monitoring, and control of strategic risks, including emerging risks
  • Support strengthening and standardization of strategic risk management across various risk programs and business areas
  • Lead the development of strategies to improve risk reporting and analysis using data and technology
  • Implement processes and tools to support the identification, measurement, monitoring, and control of strategic risks, including emerging risks
  • Drive and maintain the Company's Strategic Risk taxonomy, incorporating outputs from risk identification and assessment processes
  • Refine and calibrate risk appetite metrics and limits for strategic risks, in line with the company's risk appetite framework
  • Enhance reporting tools, including risk reporting mechanisms and key risk indicators
  • Apply strategic thinking to ensure continuous improvement of strategic risk management. This includes analysis of industry dynamics, strategic risks, and emerging trends
  • Collaborate effectively across multiple stakeholders and organizations such as Strategy Development, Operational Risk Management, Compliance, Legal, Technology, Internal Audit, Regulatory Relations, etc.
  • Write, contribute to, edit, and deliver presentations that aid in the design, development, refinement, and usage of risk management functions, practices, and activities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 5 years of Risk Management or Corporate Strategy experience
  • At least 2 years of project management or process management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strategy or Risk management experience in a large multinational organization or management consultancy
  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks and activities (e.g., risk identification, risk appetite, risk measurement)
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA)
  • FRM , CFA, MPA and PMP
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • 1+ years of experience influencing partners, from risk managers to senior leaders
  • 1+ years of experience in deliverable development for Board / Executive-level audience
