Location: 70% Vancouver(Glen Brae); 30% Abbotsford (Dave Lede House)

Reporting to: FacilitiesManager

Job status: Permanent Part-time 0.8 FTE (60 hoursbi-weekly Sunday through Wednesday)

Compensation: $57,622-$62,333

YOUR ROLE

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Facilities Manager thisposition works year-round to support our facilities and grounds teams. Seekinga well-rounded individual with a variety of experiences in lawn care, generalgarden, grounds and building maintenance.

This individual will assist our dedicatedgardener (at Glen Brae in Vancouver) in maintaining lawns and various othergarden spaces, collaborating with various departments to host donors, in houseevents and garden visits. This positionwill assist with the busy garden volunteer program, helping host corporatevolunteer groups of up to 12 people, and vacation and sick coverage at both ourVancouver (Glen Brae) location and our Abbotsford (Dave Lede House)location. Seeking a collaborativepersonality with effective written and spoken communication and strongemotional intelligence. These corecompetencies are essential for the right candidate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Grounds Work - GlenBrae- 25%

  • Lawn Care, fall leaf collection, paverrepair, occasional pressure washing and general grounds maintenance.
  • Irrigation system maintenance and management.
  • Repair and painting of fences, out buildings,and exterior furniture.
  • Snow removal using snow blower and orshovels, application of salt in freezing weather.
  • Assist in maintaining powered gardenequipment with oil changes, adjustments, lubrication, etc

Facilitates Team Support - 50%

  • Assist with major facilities initiatives suchas installing and removing Holiday Lights, Staff Day maintenance closure,seasonal exterior decoration installation and removal.
  • Assistance with facilities team to effectsmall repairs, re-lamping and/or coordinating contacting service companies forurgent matters presenting possible risk to staff or patients
  • Assistance with occasional interior projects,as directed during off season, when exterior grounds work is unnecessary,and/or the inclement weather is not conducive to productive work.
  • Assistance with project work such as smallrenovations, painting, building repairs, office reconfiguration, and furnitureset up, transporting items to recycling and/or to disposal.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as directedto help support the facilities team, especially in the event of emergent eventsthat present a potential risk to the hospice, patients or staff.

Vacation & Sick Coverage -24%

  • This role will assist in covering bothplanned vacation, sick time and other absences
  • Flexibility in this role is critical as therole will provide coverage at BOTH our Abbotsford and Vancouver location.

Assumes other related responsibilities, asassigned. - 1%

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma, supplemented with relatedexperience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

What youbring to the role:

  • Ideally, 5+ years of facility work and/orgrounds related experience
  • Valid BC Driver's License.
  • Ability in working with Outlook, MicrosoftWord, and conducting online research
  • General repair skills and being mechanicallyinclined would be an asset. Specifictraining will be provided to the right enthusiastic candidate.

  • Priority would be given to a candidate who can commute to either Dave Lede House in Abbotsford or Glen Brae Manor in Vancouver as this position may require attendance at either location.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to stand, kneel, reach and bend.Mobility of arms to reach, dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate large andsmall objects.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and walkfor long distances.
  • Ability to lift, push and/or pull objects, upto 50 pounds.
  • Ability to remain professional andpresentable while interacting with staff, children, families, and guests.Remain aware of pediatrics and office environment.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptionsand simultaneously supervise a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to work outdoors and tolerate varyingweather conditions.

  • Flexibility is necessary, as this position may requireoccasional weekend and evening work and travel within and outside the LowerMainland.
