Job Summary

The Network Engineer will be responsible for installing, maintaining, monitoring, and supporting local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) equipment and software in the Chicago, IL area.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network Engineer to join our IT team. This position will be full-time, on site, and is a contract position.

Lead network security architecture and deployment activities and manage daily Cisco infrastructure security

  • Assess new software releases to determine if upgrades are needed, apply patches, and execute/test upgrades for Cisco infrastructure

  • Document infrastructure issues, processes, and environment using provided tools

  • Coordinate and oversee the work of third-party networking consultants, maintain equipment with current vendor support agreements, and act as primary contact for resolution of Cisco support issues

  • Provide highly skilled technical assistance in complex network planning and architecture, ensuring configuration, data communication, connectivity, security, and reliability that keep networks operational

  • Support Level 1 and Level 2 technical support staff in resolving complex issues

  • Collaborate with team members to automate management tasks and streamline processes

  • What You'll Need

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related discipline, engineering, or equivalent combination of education and work experience amounting to four years in IT infrastructure and networking services

    • A minimum of six years of progressively responsible IT experience, including implementing LANs, WANs, and Cisco infrastructure in primary data center/disaster recovery environments

    • Experience with Cisco enterprise-level switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless LAN controllers

    • At least three years of experience in planning, analyzing, configuring, installing, and managing Cisco Systems

    • Comprehensive knowledge of Cisco technologies, multiple routing and Cisco OTV protocols (OSPF/BGP/HSRP/EIGRP), and current Cisco IOS

    • Knowledge of security-related technologies such as 2-factor authentication, RADIUS, RSA, and 802.1x

    • Familiarity with load balancers, monitoring tools, and enterprise business systems/applications related to infrastructure support

    • Proficiency in WAN, T-1, Frame Relay, MPLS, and wireless Cisco protocols.

    • Strong Layer 2 and Layer 3 network skills

    • Ability to assess highly complex infrastructure problems and develop and implement solutions

    • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail

    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with users, management, and consultants

    • Ability to prioritize multiple objectives and manage projects to completion

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

    Desired:

    • CCNP or F5 certification preferred

    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

    • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

    • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

    The pay range for this position is $70 - $80 per hour (USD). Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave as provided by applicable law.​
