Product Engineering (NPI) Intern

The Product Engineering Intern must have the ability to excel in a hands-on lab environment participating in the bringup, refinement, and release of new highly sophisticated supercomputer system designs through the release to manufacturing process (RTM). This position requires a quick learner who is interested in working on a cross functional team with hardware, mechanical, firmware, optical, and software engineers. You will be instrumental in helping ensure that the Cadence product quality meets the company's demanding mission critical reliability and quality expectations.

Position reports to: Director, Product Engineering

Location: San Jose, CA

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Plan footprint, setup, and bringup of new hardware from Contract Manufacturer
  • Debug hardware/firmware/software/mechanical issues that are seen during bringup.
  • Setup large Linux servers onto ethernet and infiniband networks
  • Provide to Product Engineering Team constant feedback on any issues observed.
  • Provision rack-based water-cooling units and confirm thermal performance through stress tests.
  • Connect and test large racks together using hundreds-thousands of active optic cables running high speed SerDes.
  • Develop and refine assembly, debug, and test procedures for manufacturing and field service teams.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in BS majoring in EE, CE, ECE, or equivalent.
  • Willing to work in lab environment to gain practical experience with highly sophisticated emulation hardware.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, Access, Wiki, & generic CAD.
  • Able to read and work from schematics, mechanical drawings, and device data sheets.
  • Basic ability to use Linux Command Line Interface and write basic automation shell automation scripts.

Optional capabilities

  • Experience with products using electrical, power, optical and liquid cooling backplanes.
  • Experience with coldplate assemblies
  • Experience with high-speed interconnect (Infiniband and PCIe)
  • Independent, hard-working, creative, focused organized, ability to work within a start-up team on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Comfortable with Linux environment: admin level tools, and software development tools, and more advanced scripting (Python)
