z/OS Mainframe MQSeries Systems Programmer (Hybrid - Flexible Options)

We are looking to hire a Sr. z/OS Mainframe MQSeries Systems Programmer to join our z/OS Mainframe Software Infrastructure team. In this role you will help to define strategies for our z/OS Mainframe MQSeries environment and support its implementation. This means you will bring new MQ technology to our organization by crafting technical documentation and assist in implementing these new MQ technologies. You will also be part of a last line of defense for major incidents, institute proactive measures that will help prevent impacting outages. Forward moving your role will be to collaborate with and help supervise our technology partners, vendors, and managed service providers.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Works independently to determine mainframe z/OS software upgrade requirements to maintain all products at current and supported levels determined by IBM and third-party vendor(s)
  • Coordinates and schedules all major software upgrades between different Mainframe Technical support teams
  • Defines resource requirements in conjunction with other managers within Technical Services group to support software and hardware upgrade requirements
  • Develops and maintains standards for all Software Infrastructure and Program Products
  • Monitors CPU, Memory and DASD trends to maintain service levels of supported software
  • Performs Project Management for all major product upgrades to ensure mainframe stability and reliability objectives are sustained
  • Stays abreast of vendor software trends and product release schedules for the z/OS technology software on the IBM mainframe
  • Manages multiple projects, develops detailed implementation plans and schedules, and prepares periodic status reports
  • Consults with management and technical staff on other related mainframe software and hardware initiatives
Required Skillset:
  • Provide WebSphere MQ technical and operational support in a highly technical, large, and global IBM mainframe environment
  • Lead the strategic direction of z/OS Messaging & Integration technologies.
  • Develop middleware integration standards and best practices for onboarding clients.
  • Collaborate with application developers and infrastructure architects on latest industry trends.
  • Guide MQ Engineering and Operate team practices in line with team goals.
  • Knowledge of the latest mainframe industry technologies and best practices.
  • Ability to drive vendor direction to deliver solutions needs.
  • Maintaining operational performance metrics and driving efficiency improvements.
  • Perform project scoping, consultation and design deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Conduct software proof of concept and product evaluations in partnership with vendors.
  • Research emerging technology, industry practices and develop and maintain Roadmaps.
  • Serve as Point of Contact for Vendor relationships and engagement.
  • Working knowledge of highly available MQ sysplex environments.
  • Lead the global mainframe MQ Operate team on incident management, disaster recovery, sustained resiliency, testing events and capacity planning requirements as needed.
  • Evaluate, install, test, and implement the MQ software to support software applications.
  • Maintain installed MQ software in an on-going basis and apply appropriate patches to maintain system integrity.
  • Troubleshoot software problems to maintain software stability.
  • Works in conjunction with application programmers or analyst in modifications or additional features needed to the production or test MQ definitions.
  • Compile and code necessary changes to software components.
  • Help customer analysts and programmers to debug programs using MQ software.
  • Give technical guidance to customer analysts and programmers involved in the design, development, and implementation of software applications using the MQ software.
  • Check and maintain MQ software products for its performance and resources utilization.
  • Maintain systems and provide technical support.
  • Provide training for MQ support staff.
  • Give reports of projects and status of services to their senior management.

  • perform problem determination and resolution, capture and transmit system dumps, closely work with vendor's technical support, apply fixes and patches, coordinate testing and implementation of fixes and new versions, and work with other mainframe-based technical teams on production roll-out

  • 15+ yrs. of related technical experience.
  • MS/BS or equivalent work experience.
  • Support and participate in Disaster Recovery exercises
  • Provide on-call support
