The Director of Private Label will drive the sourcing and supplier selection process, negotiate contracts and pricing, and manage the project from concept to product launch. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented project manager who takes pride in developing high-quality products. This candidate will possess amazing negotiation abilities, partner management skills, project management skills, strong financial acumen, a high degree of ownership and integrity, an extreme attention to detail, excellent communication skills and be a great team player.

You will:

  • Source the world’s best private label manufacturers and co-packers
  • Work cross functionally with the Creative and Marketing teams to further expand the Prince & Spring SKU lines, working closely with a small team of your own.
  • Become a category expert across a broad set of categories of fast moving consumer goods (e.g. healthy snacks, B2B items, apparel, household goods, baby products, etc.)
  • Negotiate price and supplier agreements
  • Create and manage the RFQ process to select great suppliers
  • Work with our QA department to select only responsible, best-in-class suppliers, including negotiating the best cost and contract terms
  • Manage and deepen supplier relationships on an ongoing basis including holding the supplier to quality and compliance requirements
  • Manage the manufacturing process to ensure fast product launches
  • Develop negotiation strategies to deliver against business objectives and achieve sustainable relationships with suppliers. This includes periodic rebidding to ensure our costs remain sharp
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies including contingency plans, lead-time reductions and supply chain efficiencies
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams including the branded buying team, finance, marketing, operations and transportation to enhance brand equity, grow category sales, expand margin, and ensure customer satisfaction

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA strongly preferred
  • 10+ years of sourcing and/or product development experience
  • The ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization/time management and problem-solving skills
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Expert in Excel, Additionally SQL preferred
  • Experience in consumable product categories such as Grocery, Personal Care, Beauty, Household, Pet, Health & Wellness, and Baby
  • Proven track record for cultivating strong relationships with key client and supplier stakeholders
  • Proven experience in developing long-term relationships, and negotiating strategic agreements to ensure constant cost and quality improvements
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to distill, synthesize, and draw conclusions from large amounts of data
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, global supply chain, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with a general merchandise retailer or consumer packaged goods company
