Our Rides business, which offers both Taxis and Public Transport, plays a key role in driving the Booking.com Connected Trip vision. Role Overview:

As a Data Scientist II, you will be working within the Rides Data Science & Analytics team and you will own various stages of data science solutions, from ideation to implementation. You will be working independently on data consumption and preparation, effectively solving business problems through statistical data analysis and modeling. This role involves interpreting experimental data to guide business decisions, uncover new opportunities, and put insights into actions . As a Data Scientist II you are expected to continuously learn, expand your technical competencies, engage with peers, and understand the larger data ecosystem and the goals for Rides. You are also responsible for ensuring the quality of your work through peer review.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Rides product, engineering, and commercial teams, helping steer decision making through relevant and actionable data insights & innovative new ways of looking at our business. You will be closely collaborating with other data scientists, analysts & machine learning scientists to develop strategic insights, uncover growth opportunities, and identify key drivers of booking trends. In particular this candidate will assume ownership of several key aspects of the Rides product including experimentation, pricing, promotion models, partner selection etc.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Leading the design and delivery of entire Data Science solutions based on business requirements, bringing them from ideation to implementation independently.
  • Working autonomously to consume and prepare data for analysis, translating business challenges into actionable data stories, and applying appropriate statistical methods to solve them.
  • Designing and interpreting quantitative experiments to objectively guide key business decision making.
  • Owning the definition and development of key product and business metrics, such as ROI and customer lifetime value (CLTV).
  • Developing expertise in Rides economics and understanding the strategy behind pricing, ranking, and promotional activities. Create data science roadmaps to support these strategies.
  • Continuously monitor product engagement and performance, generate insights, and propose iterative experimentation hypotheses to drive product growth.
  • Responsible for acting as a force multiplier for junior peers in the team by actively helping them with their craft through means of coaching, mentoring and setting a good example.

Role Qualifications and Requirements;

  • Proven experience working in Data Science roles; advanced degree preferred (Statistics, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics, or similar)(Mandatory)
  • Demonstrated ability to solve real-world problems using data mining techniques with statistical rigor, and to translate business challenges into data problems.
  • Strong technical skills in data analysis, statistics, and programming with SQL and Python/PySpark; hands-on experience with version control systems (Mandatory)
  • Strong background in causal inference/analysis including experimentation (e.g. A/B testing) and other advanced statistical methods. (Mandatory)
  • Clear understanding of the capabilities and limitations of various data analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, drive impact as a team player, and build strong relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong business acumen.
  • Analytical, strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset, humble, curious, and data-driven.

The following skills are assets for this role:

  • Hands-on experience in pricing, promotion optimisation, ranking domains
  • Working knowledge of data management (engineering, data pipelines, workflows) with Pyspark / Snowflake
  • Experience working cross-functionally with developers, UX designers, product managers, and other stakeholders to build data science solutions.
  • Applied knowledge of statistical methods (e.g. GLM, Inference), Statistical/Machine Learning (e.g. Dimension Reduction, Clustering, Regularisation, Bagged/Boosted methods), Time Series, etc
  • Applied knowledge of developing ML and GenerativeAI models at scale.
