WM Tech Portfolio Management and Trading - Database Engineer

Motivation

  • We are looking for a qualified Database developer to design stable and reliable databases, according to our company's needs working as an Agile SCRUM team member with a primary responsibility of software engineering and development with a focus on development. This role will have end to end accountability of development, unit testing, supporting multiple test phases, deployment and also ownership of the code after releasing in production.
Qualifications
  • Design stable, reliable and effective databases
  • Optimize and maintain legacy systems.
  • Modify databases according to requests and perform tests.
  • Solve database usage issues and malfunctions.
  • Liaise with developers to improve applications and establish best practices.
  • Gather user requirements and identify new features.
  • Develop technical and training manuals.
  • Provide data management support to users.
  • Ensure all database programs meet company and performance requirements.
  • Research and suggest new database products, services and protocols.
  • Uses existing and emerging technology platforms to design, develop and document technically detailed applications.
  • Should enjoy quick prototyping, implementing cloud-ready services, building tools to improve end to end application - develop a strong connect with all stakeholders and testing team.
  • S/he writes new complex systems (a grouping of programs involving multiple levels of table dimension and internal sorts that accomplishes a particular new function), designs and codes programs and creates test transactions. S/he also analyzes organizational needs and goals to develop and implement application systems.
  • Provides application software development services or technical support in situations of moderate complexity.
  • Will participate in the full software development life cycle - develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures. Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems. Ensure software is updated with latest features.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms. Provide recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Experience in using a specific application development toolkit and knowledge of backend development coding languages such as Java, Spring, Python, SQL. Must also have knowledge in application frameworks and containerization.

  • Experience and understanding of data design patterns culminating into microservices development.
  • Experience in developing Data Pipelines to support near-realtime and event-driven messaging and data processing

Education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in software development required; experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus; should have thorough knowledge of the software development cycle
Consults with internal business groups to provide high-level application software development services or technical support. Must have thorough and demonstrative knowledge on or both the user-side frontend of a website, as well as the backend, server-side that powers the user-side. Additional requirements include intermediate understanding of security principles, relational databases and architecture design principles. Provides comprehensive senior-level technical consulting to IT management and senior technical staffs. Evaluates compliance with the organization's technology standards. Programming well-designed, testable, efficient code. Analyze, design and develop tests and test-automation suites. Develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to satisfy requirements and solutions. Maintain software functionality and currency (technical debt and gain). Actively participate in code reviews. Integrate software components into a fully functional software system. Apply security and privacy principles. Works with internal business groups on implementation opportunities, challenges, and requirements of various applications. Analyzes information and provides recommendations to address and resolve business issues for a specific business group. Guides and consults with IT management and technical staffs regarding use of emerging technologies and associated services. Participates in defining corporate implementation and integration strategies of new technologies. Active learning engagement. Complete all required mandatory training / policy awareness curricula on time. Use learning tools such as Pluralsight to complete both recommended and aspirational targets set in personal development plans. Stays abreast of emerging technologies. Advocates for innovative, creative technology solutions. Mentors junior level engineers. Expertise in using a specific application development toolkit and proficiency of front end and backend development coding languages such as C#, Java, HTML, NodeJS, CSS, JSON, Angular, JavaScript. Must also have proficiency in application frameworks and containerization. Communications and organization skills; team work skills ; possess strong interpersonal skills to support mentoring. N/A. Contributes to the achievement of area objectives. Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required. 10-14 years of experience in software development required; experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus. Job holder must have understanding interdependencies and business impact of future IT plans. S/he must have prior lead experience selecting and implementing vendor-specific methodologies and prior consulting experience with structured methodologies. BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $111,000 and $242,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
