Role description and opportunities

The Media Relations and Communications Strategist for Pershing will help develop and deliver on strategic, proactive communications campaigns to support the overall strategy of the Pershing business in support of the larger BNY Mellon firm. They will report into the Head of Business Communications located in our New York headquarters. This role can be located in one of the following locations: New York, Jersey City, Lake Mary or Pittsburgh. (Hybrid - requires 3 days in the office).

Key responsibilities include the following:
  • Help support and deliver on key, strategic media relations opportunities, with a focus on boosting top tier coverage opportunities across multimedia platforms.
  • Build and nurture relationships with priority news media, inclusive of trade outlets.
  • Partner with a supporting agency on media relations strategy and tactics
  • Help prepare messaging documents for Pershing spokespeople in advance of media engagements.
  • Extensive writing and messaging development, including press releases, owned storytelling vehicles like newsroom items and thought leadership communications, to name a few.
  • Responsible for securing relevant approvals and keeping key stakeholders apprised of progress.
  • Management of deliverables against a master editorial/activation calendar, as directed by the head of business communications.
  • Help with other department needs, such as processing and tracking invoices.
A successful candidate should ideally have these qualifications:
  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in executing on a media relations strategy for a large, global financial services firm, inclusive of media outreach and collaboration with agencies.
  • Financial services content development experience is required.
  • Experienced in working in a highly matrixed, highly regulated environment, with the ability to manage a high volume of stakeholder feedback.
  • High-functioning, proactive individual who can prioritize multiple demands and handle challenging situations that may require adapting to changing requirements on a project.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills; effective presentation skills
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in media relations and corporate communications for a financial services firm
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of work experience required.
BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $92,000 and $110,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will, and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
