We're seeking a future team member for the role of Lead Manager, Accounting to join our Global Finance CoE team. This role is located in Chennai with Flex work arrangement.

In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
  • Utilize advanced accounting and finance experience, the individual will support the objectives of the accounting process being supported and perform more complex accounting activities for transactions over the course of the reporting period, including but not limited to:
    • Reviewing, approving and if needed, processing of journal entries (create, validate)
    • Assessing the derivation of accruals and reversing journal entries
    • Provide guidance and coordinate period close activities
    • Ensure proper balancing and control standards are in place and maintained.
    • Perform analysis and utilize business acumen to assess business trends as it relates to the accounting processes
    • Provide guidance in the correction of complex data errors and ensure timely resolution
    • Review & prepare reconciliations as required, as well as, identify and resolve exceptions
    • Address questions from counterparts within local and US regulatory and SEC reporting teams
    • Coach/ support fellow team members to handle more complex issues/ exceptions
  • Acting as a team lead, individual contributor and team member; review, develop and deliver process documentation, training content, and provide guidance for the accounting activities, especially complex principles. Areas that could be covered include but not limited to:
  • General accounting, Accounting Operations, Process Standards and Reporting
  • Close and consolidations
  • Fixed assets, capital project accounting
  • Inter-Company transactions and allocations
  • Business line/product specific accounting (such as Treasury Products, Derivatives, Rev Recognition)
  • Contribute and provide value added participation in process improvement reviews with team as a part of ongoing exception management and continuous improvement activities in team activities to develop clearly defined, achievable team and individual goals. Capture and analyze scorecard KPI and measurement outcomes on a daily, weekly, and period basis. Evaluate exceptions to process, quality, and service delivery commitments by category and prioritize targeted exceptions. Perform root cause analysis for complex exceptions. In collaboration with fellow team members; identify, prepare, recommend and implement strategies for the GPOs to reduce/ eliminate exceptions over time. Recognize risks and opportunities within the accounting process. Through continuous improvement activities and root cause analysis continue to address and eliminate data integrity and quality issues over time.
  • Having a strong understanding of the importance of data integrity as it relates to financial information, ensure completeness, accuracy, timeliness and accessibility of financial data. Enusre effective controls are sustained and in compliance with SOX, GAAP, FASB, IFRS and any other accounting pronouncements and policies required. Provide guidance and prompt resolution to open control exceptions. Maintain an advanced understanding of the policies and standards communicated by the Global Process Owners (E2E, FPO, DPOs) and the Technical Accounting COE and execute them. Ensure proper utilization of the BNYM Standard Chart of Accounts, sustaining the agreed data definitions and usage.
  • Lead, coordinate and perform ad hoc and special projects assignments, as required. Understand, participate, contribute, and comply with standard demand management and service management processes. Review and sustain Mutual Service Account (MSA) delivery standards and deliver to commitments on a period, quarterly and annual basis..
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
  • Qualified Accountant -- ACCA/ACA/CIMA/CPA Full Accreditation or with an equivalent level of experience
  • 9+ years' experience in preparing and reviewing Balance Sheet Account reconciliation and designing and monitoring internal controls
  • Excellent operational and technical accounting knowledge
  • 3+years of post-qualification experience
  • Minimum 3 years' experience of UK/US GAAP Accounting
  • Ability to manage small teams
  • Significant accounting experience in a complex global environment with exposure to complex accounting and business lines and a shared service centre model
  • Excellent problem-solving skills is a prerequisite for this role. This position will require giving technical support to the Preparers, Reviewers, and the Senior Accountants in completion of the Reconciliations. This position will require an excellent understanding of the controls and risk environment. The role will need to take decisions/ escalate issues to the local/onshore management. The role will require to review and enhance effectiveness of internal process controls adherence.
  • Excellent operational and technical accounting knowledge is a must for this role. This role is critical to maintain and enhance the controls over the reconciliations done in the Reconciliations team. Excellent understanding of the General Ledger Balance Sheet Account Reconciliations and related corporate policies is a must for this role.
  • As the role is responsible for interacting with multiple teams across the Finance onshore teams and the staff in Pune, excellent communication skills is a must for this role. Good Conflict intervention skills are required for this role. The role requires ability to manage small medium teams.
