Make Your Mark:

The Senior Counsel, Product & Intellectual Property Counsel will partner with the product, engineering and design teams on developing and driving the legal strategy for BlackLine's IP portfolio, technology licensing (inbound and outbound) and partnerships.

You'll Get To:

  • Support the Professional Services and Sales teams in developing sound processes (including development of standardized documentation) around IP protection in connection with customer enhancement requests.
  • Provide guidance on open-source compliance and licensing processes.
  • Provide support to legal team colleagues on IP-related questions.
  • Negotiation of related agreements with technology partners in collaboration with the Procurement, Product and Partner teams.
  • Work closely with BlackLine's Privacy and Compliance team on product related training, policies and procedures and risk assessments.
  • Provide business-minded legal support with a focus on IP and product matters to stakeholders at all levels of the company.
  • As part of a team of attorneys with a broader commercial mandate, candidates will also be expected to play an active role in customer-facing negotiations.
  • Hands-on, probing and inquisitive with an affinity and passion for the technology business.
  • Proven leader with experience in supervising other team members.
  • Ability to identify, establish and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Business sense with the ability to find pragmatic solutions to legal issues, balancing legal risks against business interests.
  • A creative thinker with high energy and enthusiasm.
  • Outstanding analytical skills and deep understanding of SaaS processes and related IP issues.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a strong collaborator.

What You'll Bring:

  • JD degree with 7+ years of combined relevant legal experience in a law firm an in-house legal department of a technology company.
  • Active license to practice law in California or ability to register in-house.
  • Solid experience advising on the interplay of technology and legal risk management in the SaaS sector.
  • The Role will be based out of one BlackLine's US offices in California (Los Angeles, Pleasanton).

Salary Range:

USD $130,900.00 - USD $174,900.00

Pay Transparency Statement:

Placement within this range depends upon several factors, including the applicant's prior relevant job experience, skill set, and geographic location. In addition to base pay, BlackLine also offers short-term and long-term incentive programs, based on eligibility, along with a robust offering of benefit and wellness plans.
