What we do?
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Learning for Development Activity is a 5-year award led by Bixal Solutions, Inc. that provides USAID/Nepal with technical and advisory services in planning, designing, conducting, and learning from the monitoring and evaluation of the Mission’s strategies, projects, and activities in an efficient manner. USAID Learning for Development supports USAID/Nepal by providing services including a) learning and knowledge management; b) evaluations, assessments, and other studies; c) performance monitoring technical support; d) capacity building; and e) development outreach and communications support.  
 
Position Background
Reporting to the Human Resources and Operations Specialist, the Driver will be responsible for providing services related to the contract vehicle and some additional support on operational task as and when required for the USAID Learning for Development Activity. Ensure that the vehicle is in good condition and documents related to the vehicle are renewed on time with pollution check, keep the logbook up-to-date, support during workshop/training and on operational task as mentioned below.
 
Location
This position will be based in Kathmandu with possible of frequently travel to different place of Nepal. You must be legally authorized to work in Nepal (PAN registration).

Essential Job Responsibilities (80%)

  • Drive office vehicle carefully and safely for the project staff’s travel to various destinations, as assigned ensuring traffic rules and safety regulations at all times.
  • Ensure general maintenance such as vehicle oil gauge, radiator brake fluid, tires, light and signal regularly in cooperation with the Supervisor.
  • Keep the vehicle ready, clean and on standby-ready for use always.
  • Maintain vehicle log sheet and monthly fuel consumption and submit to supervisor.
  • Ensure the vehicle annual registration, annual vehicle insurance and pollution check are done on time and the vehicle is safe, and road-worthy.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares etc. and update the checklist on monthly basis. 
  • Ensure major repairs are done in a timely manner.  Submit vehicle service requests to supervisor for review and approval.
  • In coordination with Security Focal Point, organize levies as needed for field trips.
  • Adhere to all safety and communication protocols, and as advised by L4Dev and supervisor.
  • Maintain daily vehicle board and ensure the daily request from staff for fleet is managed.
  • Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely and report needs and problems to supervisor.
  • Exhibit pro-activeness to carry out for any unforeseen works.
  • Willingness to work extra hours as required by the office and often on weekends and holidays.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor and L4Dev team.

Administrative/Finance and Logistics Support (20%)

  • Support operations team during training and workshop related to logistic arrangement.
  • Support operations team on daily works-utilities payment, meeting logistics with official personnel and visitors as and when instructed by the supervisor.
  • Support in Finance and Administration related task (i.e. filing the documents, visiting Bank, Tax Office etc.)
  • Perform small repair and maintenance of office vehicles and office equipment i.e., office printer and photocopy machine.
  • Support operations team during inventory check of project assets as needed.
  • Support operations team to deposit tax and SSF cheque to concerned Government offices.
  • Support operation and technical team to scan and photocopy necessary documents.
  • Support to collect shipment documents, vehicle renewal recommendation documents and VAT documents from USAID Nepal.

Other Responsibilities

  • Comply with USAID regulations and Bixal’s Professional Code of Ethics in all activities.
  • Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to L4Dev
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and L4Dev team.

Qualifications

  • Valid driving license and excellent driving record required.
  • At least 5 years experiences as a driver is required. USAID or other donor project experience is preferred.
  • At least +2 pass or equivalent academic qualifications.
  • Professional proficiency in writing and speaking in English and Nepali.
  • Technical knowledge and skill about vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of MS word, Spreadsheet, Email.
  • Knowledge of general safety and security management plan, First Aids, Fire, Incident Reporting, Vehicle use Road Safety.
