US Corporate Affairs, Director, Rare Disease
About This Role
The Director of Corporate Affairs, Product Communications will drive the development and implementation of internal and external multi-channel strategies for the U.S. Rare Disease franchise, which includes multiple commercialized products. The individual will lead key external-facing projects with broad impact on the business. In addition, this individual will represent Corporate Affairs as the strategic counselor to the Rare Disease team, holding a seat on the program Leadership team.
This person will create innovative plans and an aligned approach to external stakeholder messaging for both Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Friedreich Ataxia. A significant focus of this role will be leading communications strategy for a product launch and amplifying awareness of the company's products and therapeutic areas through video content, media relations, social media, paid strategy, and press releases.
The role will be dedicated to the U.S. Rare Disease team and part of the Global Corporate Affairs team, reporting into the Head of Corporate Affairs, North America.
What You'll Do
Strategic Communications Leadership
- Develop and execute multi-faceted, strategic communications plans that support the goals of the U.S. Rare Disease business and align with company's overall mission, values, and business objectives
- Identify and leverage opportunities to support business challenges
- Act as a strategic partner to senior executives, providing guidance on product-related messaging, media engagement, and reputation management
- Work closely and effectively with compliance, legal and regulatory colleagues
- Provide direction and leadership to agency teams that support this role
- Develop measurable goals to track the impact and effectiveness of communication strategies
- Manage and track communication budgets to ensure strategic allocation and cost efficiency

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- 10+ years experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology product communications
- Significant experience working on marketed products, with preferred for experience in rare disease
- Ability to develop strong relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements in healthcare communications
- Ability to articulate, defend and adapt strategy to senior leadership
- Strong stakeholder engagement and agency/vendor management experience
- Ability to navigate a fast-paced, matrixed organizational environment.

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $192,000.00-$264,000.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
