About This Role:
As a (Sr) Medical Science Liaison specializing in Rare Diseases / SMA, you will play a pivotal role within our medical team, providing field-based medical and scientific expertise. Your deep understanding of the disease area and our products will be essential in creating valued partnerships with key stakeholders in the medical community and healthcare system. You will contribute significantly to our success through internal and external medical education and the exchange of medical and scientific information. Your work will involve gathering medical insights and supporting research and data generation initiatives. In this role, you will utilize your expertise to present complex medical content to key medical experts (KMEs) and manage intricate medical projects. You will be expected to continuously update your knowledge in therapeutic areas, patient-treatment trends, and scientific activities, ensuring compliance with our Code of Business Conduct.
What You'll Do:
- Provide field-based medical scientific support to key medical experts (KMEs) and patient advocacy groups (PAGs) in Germany.
- Develop and deliver medical scientific presentations and lead expert discussions.
- Support and execute medical education activities and projects in collaboration with the scientific community.
- Disseminate high-quality, complex scientific information and provide innovative medical education content.
- Collaborate with local patient organizations to educate about rare diseases and advances in patient care.
- Assist therapeutic experts in developing concepts and protocols for studies supporting orphan drug therapies.
- Interact and collaborate appropriately with internal functions such as sales, market access, and pharmacovigilance.
- Support and execute internal education and training on disease areas and treatment advancements.
- Stay updated on therapy advances, current research, and detailed knowledge of Biogen products and relevant disease areas.
- Understand current standards and identify opportunities for evolving care in Rare Diseases.
- Support communication efforts around expanded access programs (EAPs) for therapies under development.
Who You Are:
You are a highly motivated individual with a deep passion for rare diseases and a strong scientific background. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills allow you to build valuable relationships with key stakeholders. You thrive in dynamic environments, embracing change and adapting to new challenges with ease. As a self-starter, you are proactive and possess a flexible mindset, always ready to collaborate within a cross-functional team. Your ability to handle stress and maintain high energy levels ensures you effectively manage multiple responsibilities and projects.
Required Skills:
- Academic qualification in medical or life sciences (M.D., Ph.D., or Pharm.D. preferred).
- 5+ years of relevant work experience, including pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Insight and/or interest in rare diseases, neuromuscular diseases, or neurology.
- Working knowledge of Regulatory Affairs, Drug Safety, Market Access, and the legal and compliance environment.
- Strong customer orientation with a science-based approach.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills, both scientific and non-scientific.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
- Proactive, flexible, and able to manage stress effectively.
- Willingness to travel.
- Fluent in English.
