Job Description

The Capital Project Management function is looking to hire a Principal Capital Project Manager to lead projects and/or project activities that are generally considered to be moderately complex, which are projects that involve relatively high risk and multiple stakeholders, and relatively simple regulatory requirements, but still require significant financial investments and stringent timelines. These projects usually require advanced project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and resource management.

This role reports to the Head of Capital Project Management. The Capital Project Management function is accountable for successful delivery of capital projects (>$1value per project) on behalf of site operations, via a robust, methodical stage gate delivery approach aligned with global best practices and standards. The objective of this role is to significantly raise capital project performance level and bring value to site operations through consistent, accurate, and precise delivery of site projects in line with expected outcomes (approved business case) in the most aligned, standardized, efficient, safe, and compliant manner. This role has project management accountability from pre-capital feasibility stage through project closeout. This role will also be accountable to ensure successful outcomes of financial / accounting audits for projects managed.

What You’ll Do

  • Works under the guidance and leadership of Capital Planning Manager to support development of front-end planning deliverables for individually assigned project opportunities.  Activities include development of business case, scope, cost estimates, budgets, schedule, and project risk assessment.
  • Manages all aspects of an individually assigned portfolio of capital projects (various sizes) including budgets, schedule, engineering, construction, coordination and safety.  Works closely with project sponsor and other stakeholders to align on project requirements, goals, and objectives.  Leads cross-functional teams to achieve project success with respect to functionality, budget, safety, quality and schedule.  Includes onboarding and oversight of external contractors, engineering firms, construction managers, staff augmentation, etc. who contribute to project execution.  Accountable to ensure successful outcomes of financial / accounting audits for projects managed.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures as required for the continuous improvement of functional group operations including training, contract development and capital project execution procedures.  Ensures best practices and procedures are updated and adhered to during capital project execution.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field (civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, other) or construction management
  • Master’s degree or higher business or relevant field is preferred but not required
  • 10-12 years of capital portfolio and major project management experience including +5 years’ experience in pharmaceutical and global roles.
  • Proven project management and technical knowledge with demonstrated ability to deliver safe, effective and fully compliant projects
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities leading capital execution teams in a matrix capacity
  • Excellent communication skills, able to effectively present complex ideas and solutions to executive management and to technical experts
  • Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of key non-technical business processes, human relations, finance
  • Advanced HSE and GxP/QA knowledge.

Desired

  • Experience w/ EcoSys or similar project management tool

Who You Are

You possess engineering and project management experience in the construction of new facilities and retrofits of operating biotech/pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, with direct involvement in engineering, construction, commissioning, or validation of capital projects. You have the ability to simultaneously manage a few complex large projects or several diverse small projects.
