About This Role

As the Information Governance Lead, you will play a pivotal role enhancing and executing Biogen's global Information Governance program. This program is vital in ensuring the company's data is managed effectively across its lifecycle. Reporting to the US Privacy and Governance Lead and part of the Privacy and Data Protection team, you will spearhead the overall strategy for the program and develop organizational processes and procedures to achieve governance goals and uphold data lifecycle standards and best practices. As a thought leader, you will be accountable for developing appropriate program materials and trainings to educate stakeholders on governance principles, policies, and procedures. You will proactively engage with various business departments to implement practices that align with Biogen's policies and standards for data management.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for managing, storing, retaining, and deleting physical/electronic content and records.
  • Lead the strategy and maturation of data classification and lifecycle management capabilities, focusing on unstructured data.
  • Drive the implementation of data management and information governance best practices across the enterprise.
  • Act as a liaison with business functions for information classification, labelling, and data and records management practices.
  • Enhance strategy and governance over archiving services for structured and unstructured data.
  • Ensure records are managed in compliance with company procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Advise business on data and information management requirements, including during acquisition/divestiture activities and new system implementations.
  • Identify and implement improvements in procedure and process efficiency and effectiveness via a continuous improvement approach.
  • Partner with Learning team to create effective training materials to educate employees on records and data management policies, best practices and procedures.
  • Collaborate with function-specific data governance programs to enable a unified perspective of data governance.
  • Work with the Data Protection team to ensure the protection of Biogen's most valuable data.

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in Information Governance, Records Management, Data Management, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data and records classification and management principles and best practices, and digital preservation theory and practice.
  • Direct and demonstrated experience developing, planning, implementing and maturing data management and information governance programs and data lifecycle management strategies.
  • Solution and results oriented with strong business and operational judgment.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication across all levels of management and departments.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate independently and in a team environment. Works effectively in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience indirectly managing other team members, helping to supervise or review their work or responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (business management or computer science preferred) or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industries, with understanding of relevant regulations strongly preferred.
  • Certified Records Manager (CRM), Information Governance Professional (IGP), or related certifications in data/security.
  • An M.S. in Library Science, Information Science, or Computer Science.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $149,000.00-$205,000.00

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
