About This Role:

As the Global Trade Compliance Operations Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring efficient and compliant cross-border trade activities for Biogen. You will be responsible for managing day-to-day import/export compliance operations, as well as Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) Customs requirements, ensuring compliance with international trade laws. Acting as a key liaison among internal teams, customs brokers, government agencies, and other stakeholders, you will streamline import/export clearance by U.S., and Canada Customs, as well as other government agencies proactively. Additionally, you will serve as the subject matter expert for the global trade management system (GTM), providing training and support to internal stakeholders while implementing system enhancements. This role is instrumental in enhancing operational efficiency and maintaining compliance across global trade.

This is an on-site role to be based at our office in Research Triangle Park, NC.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage daily trade operations to ensure compliance with customs regulations and other government agencies (e.g., FDA, USDA, BIS, CDC, FWS).
  • Coordinate with customs brokers to ensure efficient and compliant cross-border transactions, including providing import/export instructions, pre-filing documentation reviews, conducting post-entry audits.
  • Responsible for maintaining records related to customs clearances. In addition to US and Canada import/export compliance procedures.
  • Act as a liaison and communicate with customs authorities, and government agencies to execute timely import/export clearance.
  • Conduct Restricted Party Screening reviews, per Biogen established processes.
  • Oversee and execute operational activities within internal stakeholders, and Customs Brokers related to management and reporting for Biogen's Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) facilities.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the global trade management system (GTM), leading training and support to internal users, as well as coordinating system updates with IT teams and external service providers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (i.e. distribution & logistics, clinical supply chain, Quality, R&D) to streamline import/export processes.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives, contributing expertise in trade compliance and operational efficiency improvements.

Required Skills:

  • A bachelor's degree in related field with a minimum of 3 years of trade compliance operations experience with multinational companies in regulated industries.
  • Experienced in import/export operations, including customs filings in the U.S. and Canada, coordination with customs brokers and government agencies (i.e. FDA, USDA).
  • Solid knowledge in international trade fundamentals for regulated industries, including HTS classification, country of origin, valuation, Incoterms, FDA disclaimers, etc.
  • Experience working with Oracle's Global Trade Management system or similar ERP trade compliance modules (i.e., import/export workbench, Classification, restricted party screening, etc.)
  • Experience with Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) compliance, operations and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills: attention to detail' and driven attitude to take ownership and deliver on commitments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Data analytics, and project management experience.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $83,000.00-$108,000.00

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
