About the Role:

This application is for a 6-month student role from January - June 2026. Resume review begins in October 2025.

The Genomics and Computational Biology team performs high quality computational analysis on genomics/transcriptomics datasets, develops robust NGS data analysis pipelines, and evaluates cutting edge computational tools and technologies. Using such approaches, we collaborate closely with all discovery teams in Research to answer drug development questions related to target identification, engagement and validation. Datatypes frequently analyzed within our group include RNAseq, miRNAseq, sc/snRNAseq, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics of patient tissues and model systems.

What You'll Do:

As a co-op, you will:

  • Analyze internal and publicly available spatial transcriptomic datasets, i.e., Xenium, Visium HD, etc.


  • Apply state-of--the-art AI/ML models for spatial transcriptomic data analysis and data integration across platform.


  • Write code in python/R to perform tasks


  • Attend scheduled team bi-weekly meetings


  • Give bi-weekly updates of progress.

Example projects may include:

  • Data integration of Xenium and Visium HD from CLE (Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus) skin samples.

  • Explore SPHENIC, a topology-informed clustering method, to improve spatial embedding stability and improve cell type annotation with higher resolution across different tissue regions.


  • Implement MOSAIK, an end-to-end workflow for integrating Xenium and Visium HD datasets, including re-segmentation, cell typing, spatial domain identification, and cell-cell communication analysis.


  • Develop specialized AI agent to streamline the analyze and customize visualization of spatial transcriptomics data based on key scientific questions.

Who You Are:

An ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with computational analysis of spatial transcriptomic data.


  • Experience with AI/machine learning methods development or application in biological sciences.


  • Coding experience in Python, R and data visualization tools

To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.


  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.


  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship.

Education Requirements

  • Pursuing PhD in computational biology and related area.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $33.00-$33.00

The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate's current academic level and degree candidacy, inclusive of Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, JD, MD, PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
