About This Role

As the Category Manager for Scientific Services, you will play a critical role in managing Biogen's outsourcing of research and discovery related activities. You will develop and implement comprehensive category strategies, ensuring alignment with the priorities and needs of the Research organization. This role covers various services, including: toxicology and in vivo services, lab animals, vivarium supplies, chemistry services, biology services, and various other scientific research services. By taking ownership of this category, you will aggregate the voice of internal customers, collaborate with key suppliers, and stay informed on industry trends and new technologies. Your role is integral in identifying and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives alongside stakeholders. You will report directly to the Director of Procurement for Scientific Products & Services.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with business stakeholders in Research to build strong relationships, facilitating the realization of business objectives and savings.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through RFI and RFP sourcing initiatives aligned with category strategy, extracting optimal value for Biogen.
  • Develop and implement mid to long-term sourcing, negotiating, and contracting strategies to achieve category goals. And enhance category strategies year over year by monitoring market trends and leading practices.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders across Research to problem-solve and be able to communicate effectively to a broad stakeholder group.
  • Take a leadership role in supplier relationship management activities with top vendors, helping assess vendor performance through periodic business reviews.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to senior management and internal stakeholders on scientific services procurement.

Who You Are
You are a strategic procurement professional with a passion for collaboration and process improvement. You have knowledge and experience in the scientific services category due to your scientific background, either in chemistry, biology or animal sciences. You thrive in dynamic environments, adeptly managing change and ambiguity, while your exceptional communication skills allow you to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of procurement or related experience, with a focus on scientific services.
  • Experience in negotiating commercial agreements with suppliers.
  • Proficiency in manipulating large data sets in Excel using pivot tables
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management skills, capable of handling multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of leading meetings, as well as tailoring messages to diverse audiences.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in a scientific field.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $106,000.00-$142,000.00

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
