About This Role

You will as Associate Director Value & Access Rare Diseases support the development of market access plans and strategies in support of Biogen’s rare disease assets in EU & BIR affiliates (all ex-US markets). The role holder will be responsible for supporting health technology assessment and reimbursement submissions, negotiation strategies, innovative access schemes, development of value materials, communications and tools, training affiliate V&A teams on new data to support the value proposition of our treatments in discussions with payers. 

 

To achieve these goals, you will need to work in partnership with multiple internal stakeholder groups including the cross-functional iCOE (International Center of Excellence) rare disease team, and V&A colleagues in global, iCOE and affiliates, to develop and implement commercially aligned market access strategies. You will be someone that possesses excellent organizational, strategic thinking and interpersonal skills that works well under pressure and is able to handle multiple requests for support and prioritize accordingly. A customer-focused mindset as well as someone that can bring people together to solve complex problems will be highly valued in this role.

Location: Biogen office in Baar, Switzerland working as per our local hybrid working model in Switzerland
 

What You'll Do

Strategic Market Access Planning:

  • Support, oversee and provide specific expert input into market access plans and strategies consistent with regional Pricing & Reimbursement policies and global commercial product strategies, and to ensure strategies are sufficiently proactive to respond to anticipated changes in the healthcare systems, or policies.
  • Actively support EU & BIR affiliates on preparation for payer negotiations in launch phase and beyond 
  • Provides strategic input to the Regional Pricing Councils and supports affiliate preparations.
  • Establish and maintain professional and productive relationships with external stakeholders to support strategy development and execution.
  • Work collaboratively with internal functions such as Medical, Regulatory, Government Affairs & Public Affairs.

Operational Expertise and Support:

  • Actively support affiliates in preparing reimbursement submissions, ensuring timely access to data and appropriate use of value narratives
  • Post-submission, deploy cross-functional teams of internal & external experts to address payer questions in a timely manner that arise from affiliate submissions. Specifically, produce an action plan for addressing the questions dependent on the nature of the questions and who would be involved.
  • Vigilantly track the reimbursement status of Biogen and competitor asset to keep internal stakeholders fully informed on relevant updates at all times.
  • Participate and lead (as appropriate) in payer advisory boards to gain input on country health economic data needs and strategic pricing.
  • Support the dissemination of new data and publications to the affiliates, and externally via peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively share information with our Medical, Marketing, Government Affairs, Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy counterparts.

Drive Improved Performance & Understanding in Market Access:

  • Ensure necessary training for regional and affiliates on market access material and relevant capabilities. 
  • Drive a culture of excellence, shared accountability and collaboration within Value and Access and Affiliates within Biogen via sharing and dissemination of key learnings and best practices.

Who You Are

An experienced professional well-versed in market access, health economics, and public affairs. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of healthcare systems, strong communication skills, and technical expertise in health economics, reimbursement, and specific geographical areas.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in relevant market access, reimbursement, and public affairs within the biopharmaceuticals industry (part of experience may include time in relevant consulting, HTA agency and/or direct payer experience).
    • Higher level degree/ MA/MSc/PhD in Health Economics, Health Services Research, Epidemiology, Marketing, Business Studies.
    • Strong technical understanding of health economics, clinical trial design, real-world evidence, pricing, reimbursement, access with hands-on experience in particular geographies, and demonstrable track record. 
    • Prior experience in market access, health economics, pricing, public affairs, government affairs.
    • Have had experience of developing payer evidence plans and market access strategies in an HTA market (e.g UK, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Sweden)
    • Sound knowledge of local health care systems and pricing and reimbursement requirements. 
    • Strong project management skills.
    • Demonstrable experience in managing multiple cross-functional projects and external vendors.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
