Technol Manufacturing Support Engineer
The Automation Technology will support the design, construction, programming, and validation of custom automated equipment used in medical device manufacturing. This role requires hands-on expertise in Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, Cognex vision systems, and electrical panel design. The engineer will lead and coordinate equipment-related projects, troubleshoot complex systems, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient, compliant, and scalable automation solutions.

Education and Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent 9 years experience previous related experience, such as GMP, clean room, medical device, and experience with automated equipment Required
  • Degree or equivalent experience is preferred, Associate's degree is a plus

  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs using Allen Bradley platforms (RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000), including ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams.
  • Program and integrate HMI interfaces (FactoryTalk View ME/SE) for operator interaction, including alarms, status displays, and control inputs.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Cognex vision systems for inspection and process control.
  • Perform debugging and commissioning of PLC and HMI programs during machine build, testing, and validation phases.
  • Maintain version control and documentation of all PLC, HMI, and vision system code changes.
  • Design and construct electrical control panels, including layout planning, wiring, and component selection.
  • Select and integrate automation components such as servo motors, controllers, sensors, drives, and safety devices tailored to specific machine requirements.
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, BOMs, and wiring diagrams to support machine builds and modifications.
  • Provide real-time troubleshooting of automated equipment, diagnosing and resolving issues across electrical, software, and mechanical domains.
  • Conduct system testing to identify weaknesses and ensure smooth, reliable operation.
  • Perform regular maintenance on automated equipment and repair malfunctions to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Train and mentor other technicians, offering hands-on guidance, technical instruction, and support during equipment builds, troubleshooting, and process changes.
  • Analyzing current processes to find ways to improve, streamline workflows, and enhance overall efficiency.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure alignment with DB Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines, including clean room and GMP standards.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Prepare regulatory and internal reports, complete waste determinations, and coordinate training sessions for affected personnel.

General Expectations

  • Maintain on-time arrival, regular attendance, and full workday participation.
  • Perform other incidental duties such as report writing and data collection as needed.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 9+ years of experience in GMP, clean room, medical device, and automated equipment environments - Required
  • Electronics Associate's degree or equivalent experience - Preferred

Additional Skills

  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office Suite;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to convey instructions, training, and negotiate effectively.
  • Attention to detail and ability to provide professional, tactful feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments with minimal supervision.
  • Proven success in adhering to project schedules and managing small projects.
