Position Overview

As we embark on a multi-year mission to revolutionize the Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Manufacturing (CAM) industry with Autodesk Fusion, we are excited to offer a pivotal role in our Product Development and Manufacturing Solutions division. The team you will join is spearheading the development of Fusion's cloud-based automation and AI-powered capabilities.

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will leverage your engineering skillset and research expertise to tackle complex problems in building comprehensive AI/ML solutions. Your involvement will span from data preparation at a massive scale to model training and evaluation, culminating in the release of ML-based automation capabilities as reliable, scalable, and secure cloud-based services. These services will be utilized by millions of Autodesk Fusion users on a daily basis and made available on Autodesk Platform Services, Autodesk's global developer ecosystem.

Your extensive knowledge of AI/ML technology design, development, and deployment, coupled with solid cloud computing experience, will be crucial for successfully implementing cloud-based AI-powered solutions. You will guide the team in determining methods, technologies, and best practices, informed by the latest AI/ML research and industry developments. Additionally, you will have a solid understanding of non-functional requirements and governance models for cloud-based AI systems, such as SOC2 and ISO 42001. Your ability to efficiently handle the demands of a dynamic, fast-paced research and development environment will be key to your success.

Responsibilities

  • Cloud-Based Data Preparation: Design and develop a cloud-based data preparation pipeline for ML model development in the Design and Manufacture space.
  • Optimization: Optimize this pipeline for throughput, latency, and cost using published or novel and creative approaches.
  • Model Development: Develop ML models, building on the latest published research.
  • Model Improvement: Improve and customize existing models using methodologies like RAG, fine-tuning, and transfer-learning.
  • Integration: Integrate existing ML models into novel applications.
  • Application Development: Develop and deploy applications that integrate AI/ML technology or models.
  • Problem Solving: Apply ML methods to address challenges in the CAD/CAM space.
  • Literature Review: Review relevant AI/ML literature and industry developments to identify emerging methods, technologies, and best practices.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into product development.
  • Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior researchers and engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Publication: Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals; represent Autodesk at industry and research events.

Requirements

  • Research Expertise: Proven research track record in AI/ML, high-performance computing, big data, applied mathematics, or statistics.
  • Real-World Experience: Demonstrated history of developing AI/ML powered solutions that solve a real-world problem and have users of any form.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python and JavaScript (required), C++ (optional).
  • Analytical Skills: Solid understanding of ML approaches to determine suitable technologies or methodologies for specific problems.
  • Code Quality: Natural aptitude for good code and software architecture.
  • Work Ethic: Hands-on mentality.

Preferred requirements

  • Cloud Computing: Strong experience with AWS services, particularly ECS, EC2, Lambda, and AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM).
  • Governance Understanding: Understanding of governance for cloud-based and AI solutions (e.g., SOC2, ISO 42001, EU AI Act).
  • ML Frameworks: Experience with ML frameworks for data preparation and training at a large scale.
