Position Overview
The Principal Designer at Autodesk is a strategic, systems-level thinker who elevates the quality of experiences across products and workflows. They act as a customer advocate, deeply understand user needs, and drive scalable solutions that reflect a journey-centric design approach.

Reporting to the Manager of Design, the Principal Designer will contribute to critical projects in the customer success domain that transform and optimize digital touchpoints across Autodesk offerings. This role requires a combination of superior interaction and system design skills, the ability to set strategic direction, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality experiences.

Responsibilities
- Lead vision and strategy for complex workflows, systems, and customer journeys, connecting solutions across products, platforms, and services
- Influence cross-functional roadmaps by synthesizing research, business objectives, and customer needs into compelling design strategies
- Advance systems thinking and scalability, creating frameworks, models, and design patterns that enable efficiency and consistency
- Collaborate proactively with research, product, engineering, and content teams to deliver seamless, end-to-end experiences
- Advocate for a journey-driven approach, aligning design solutions with key moments of customer value
- Act as a champion of design quality, raising the bar for interaction, usability, and visual excellence
- Mentor and coach designers across multiple teams, nurturing a culture of craft, strategic thinking, and customer advocacy
- Integrate AI-driven workflows and emerging technologies into the design process where appropriate
- Communicate complex concepts with clarity and inspiration to diverse audiences, including executives and external stakeholders
- Actively contribute to community building, cross-team initiatives, and the maturation of design operations and best practices
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience designing and delivering digital experiences for complex, multi-product ecosystems
- Expertise in systems design, interaction design, and information architecture
- Strong strategic mindset with a demonstrated ability to influence product direction and business outcomes through design
- Mastery of design principles, UX best practices, and customer-centric thinking
- Experience leading cross-functional collaboration and influencing at the senior leadership level
- Strong portfolio showcasing systems thinking, end-to-end experience design, and high-impact design leadership
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and visual, with the ability to frame problems and solutions clearly
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate the work of other designers
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, agile environment
- Curiosity and adaptability, with a growth mindset toward integrating new tools and methods such as AI into the design practice
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, HCI, Human Factors, or a related field
- Experience designing multichannel and omnichannel experiences
- Familiarity with Lean UX, journey management frameworks, and customer success methodologies
- Background in designing for B2B SaaS, enterprise, or complex technical domains
- Experience with Autodesk products or similar ecosystems

Salary transparency
Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $133,300 and $215,600. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
