Roles and Responsibilities
The US Indirect Tax Expertise Manager will be located in the San Diego, CA office and will report to the Indirect Tax Senior Expertise Manager located in Veldhoven, Netherlands while also working closely with the US Tax and Tax Compliance teams located in various locations in the US. This position will oversee sales and use tax (SUT) processes in all US locations while providing integrated and practical advice towards the business and interfacing with key stakeholders in the San Diego office. Other responsibilities include:
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders as well as other Tax and Customs team members to identify SUT-relevant topics and provide solutions
- Participation in cross-sector projects, with a special focus on projects with SUT implications
- Assist US compliance (tax and finance) teams in executing ongoing SUT compliance processes
- Research and provide guidance on SUT issues
- Coordinate SUT nexus studies as needed
- Manage US SUT audits
- Conduct reverse audit procedures to identify refund opportunities
- Monitoring and continuously improving SUT compliance processes
- Work with the Tax and Customs generalist and expertise teams to ensure relevant priorities are addressed
- Formalizing and continuously updating the SUT control Framework in which SUT risks and controls are described
- Define SUT Strategy and roadmap
- Some travel required (10-25%)
Education and Experience
- Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or other business discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Relevant master's degree and/or CPA preferred
- 5+ years experience in US sales and use tax
The successful candidate will:
- Have excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate tax matters to stakeholders at their level of understanding
- Be able to work independently, while also knowing when to elevate relevant matters
- Possess strong analytical, time management, prioritization, and relationship building, and problem solving attributes
- Be goal oriented, both with team and individual goals
- Have knowledge on and experience with technology solutions in the SUT domain and a strong interest in relevant tax automation in the SUT domain or more widely the tax domain
- Enjoy improving strong technical and business knowledge
The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:
$108,750-181,250
Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
