Introduction to the job

The WF Optics New Product Introduction (NPI) Technical Lead will support Wilton Factory's next generation of product development activities. The Technical Lead will work with both product designers and process engineers to optimize utilization of various optical manufacturing practices on cutting-edge products. This work requires that the Technical Lead possess expertise in multiple disciplines, ensuring end-to-end product ownership and technical confidence in a dynamic, often-ambiguous, design and manufacturing environment.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role and responsibilities
The WF Optics NPI Technical Lead will:

  • Operate in a cross-functional team to ensure manufacturability of optical designs, visualizing and executing process flows that ensure successful product realization.
  • Demonstrate technical versatility, possessing both theoretical and practical (hands-on) optical manufacturing expertise.
  • Own end-to-end product development, understanding process interactions and interdependencies at a product level.
  • Possess 5-10 years working experience with materials such as: zero CTE glass ceramics, ceramic composites, complex wear resistant tribological coatings and optical coatings.
  • Contribute 5-10 years working experience in multiple optical manufacturing disciplines, such as: 5-axis CNC machining to form complex structures, lapping and polishing to figure optical surfaces, lithography or laser ablation to create sub-micron surface modulations, thermal processing for annealing and complex bonding technologies for ceramics and glasses.

Education and experience
    • Minimum BS in Material Sciences, Physics, Chemistry or other engineering/science disciplines with at least 5 years' experience in optical manufacturing industry
    • Preferred PhD in Material Sciences, Physics, Chemistry or other engineering/science disciplines with at least 10 years' experience in optical manufacturing
    Skills

    • 5-10 years work experience in optical manufacturing environment
    • Experience in complex optical system or component manufacturing, includingCNC machining of optical materials, polishing, deterministic surface correction, lithography, optical coatings, wear resistant coatings and advanced metrology.
    • Surface and microstructure characterization using advanced techniques such as interferometry, white light interferometer, electron microscopy, surface profilometers, and analytical techniques.
    • Experience in tribology and establishing links between surface/microstructure characteristics and exhibited system behavior.
    • Experience in precision high speed stage, chuck and electrostatic clamp manufacturing
    • Experience in bonding and joining technologies between glass to glass, glass to ceramics and glass to metal.
