Position Summary

The Principal Enterprise Architect is a strategic and influential leadership role responsible for the overall design, integration, and governance of the organization's technology landscape. This role is a key enabler of business strategy, translating business objectives into a coherent and forward-looking architectural vision that spans infrastructure, applications, data, and security.

As a senior-level leader, the Principal Enterprise Architect will work across all business units and geographies to ensure that technology investments are aligned with corporate goals, sustainable, and scalable. This individual will be a master communicator, capable of engaging with and influencing senior C-suite executives, business leaders, and highly technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Architectural Strategy & Leadership:

• Develop and champion a holistic enterprise-wide technology strategy and architectural roadmap that aligns with the organization's business vision and goals.

• Lead the architecture function across all domains (infrastructure, applications, data, and security), setting architectural principles, standards, and patterns.

• Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing expert guidance on technology trends, opportunities, and risks.

• Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies (e.g., cloud, microservices, AI/ML, DevOps, etc.) to enhance business capabilities and efficiency.

• Infrastructure Architecture:

• Define the target state architecture for the global infrastructure, including on-premise data centers, cloud platforms (IaaS/PaaS), and network connectivity.

• Ensure the infrastructure is resilient, scalable, and cost-optimized to support the organization's global operations.

• Oversee and govern all infrastructure-related design decisions to ensure compliance with architectural standards.

• Application & Integration Architecture:

• Develop and maintain the architectural blueprint for the organization's application portfolio, including legacy systems, COTS (Commercial Off-the-Shelf) applications, and custom-built solutions.

• Define the integration strategy and architecture to ensure seamless data and process flow between disparate systems and domains.

• Lead the rationalization of the application portfolio, identifying opportunities for consolidation, modernization, and retirement.

• Data & Analytics Architecture:

• Design and govern the enterprise data architecture, including data governance models, data lakes, data warehouses, and data pipelines.

• Ensure data is treated as a strategic asset, with a focus on its quality, accessibility, and security.

• Define the strategy for advanced analytics and business intelligence, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.

• Security Architecture:

• Embed security by design across all architectural domains, ensuring that all technology solutions are built with a robust security posture.

• Work with the CISO and security teams to define and enforce global security policies and standards for infrastructure, applications, and data.

• Act as the final arbiter for security-related architectural decisions, balancing business enablement with risk mitigation.

• Governance & Mentorship:

• Chair or lead the Architecture Review Board, providing architectural governance and assurance for major projects and initiatives.

• Collaborate with project teams, product owners, and engineering leaders to ensure solutions are compliant with the enterprise architecture.

• Mentor and coach a team of architects (solution, domain, and data architects) to build a strong architectural community and capability within the organization.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience:

• 10+ years of progressive experience in IT with at least 5+ years in a senior Enterprise Architect or Principal Architect role within a large, global organization.

• Extensive, hands-on experience in at least one, and significant experience in all, of the core architectural domains: Infrastructure, Application, Data, and Security.

• Proven track record of defining and implementing enterprise-wide architectural strategies and roadmaps.

• Experience with multi-cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and modern, distributed architectures (e.g., microservices, APIs).

• Technical Proficiency:

• Deep understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).

• Expertise in data modeling, database technologies (SQL/NoSQL), and data integration patterns.

• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001), and security technologies.

• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.

• Soft Skills & Leadership:

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including the C-suite.

• Superior leadership and influence skills, capable of driving change and building consensus across a diverse, global organization.

• Strong business acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to connect technology decisions to business outcomes.

• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.

• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a highly matrixed and cross-functional environment.

Education & Certifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required. A Master's degree or MBA is highly preferred.

• Relevant professional certifications such as TOGAF 9 or TOGAF 10, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or cloud-specific architecture certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional) are highly desirable.
